Major Duties:
- NONAPPROPRIATED FUND POSITION DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Recreation Assistant BUSINESS TITLE: Framing Technician FLSA: NON-EXEMPT JOB SERIES: 0189 PAY LEVEL: NF-02 INTRODUCTION: The subject position is located within Foster Arts and Crafts: Foster Framing, Retail Operations Section, Business Operations Branch, Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) Division, Camp S. D. Butler, Okinawa, Japan. The position performs the following duties: DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Learns new styles, trends, and techniques used in Framing and the Arts and Crafts Industry, and makes recommendations to management. Demonstrates knowledge of framing techniques, styles, and products, to assist patrons in framing sales activities. Makes recommendations on customer projects and orders. Prepares custom framing orders and shadow boxes. Offers assistance and suggestive selling advice as the customer progresses throughout their shopping experience. Relays customer comments and concerns to management. Identifies opportunities to produce add-on sales through suggestive and consultative selling. Responsible for the scheduling of product delivery due dates for each project accepted to ensure that all projects are completed on time and are high quality. May handle customer special orders and merchandise requests. Assists team with DIY framing courses offered to patrons, assists patrons with product creation while working on their own products in Foster Framing. Monitors patrons while working on their own products, to make sure questions can be readily answered if applicable. Reports any misuse of materials and framing tools to the direct supervisor. Work includes the control and care of supplies and equipment needed for these activities and making recommendations on the proper supplies and merchandise for the program to management. Responsible for the operations and demonstration of the necessary tools and equipment used in framing. Exercises independence in applying well established procedures. Performs general housekeeping duties such as cleaning or dusting fixtures, merchandise, and bathrooms. Monitors and checks the security of premises. Performs salesclerk duties, working with cash registers, accepting and handling cash collections from authorized patrons, and preparing daily activity reports. Conducts monthly and year-end-merchandise inventory counts. May be required to create arts and crafts lessons and instruct them. Responsible for the orderly operations of the facility ensuring that it is clean and organized to include storage areas. Supports Foster Framing in providing assistance in the preparation of and during the special sales and events, making custom order frames, etc. as directed by management. Understands and operates within all service policies and exercises an ¿I can do that¿ mentality when a customer problem occurs. Follows up with customers to ensure their problems were resolved. Responsible for meeting personal and facilities sales goals. Assists management in the planning and execution of all sales programs, promotions, and other events. Identifies opportunities to resolve customer problems and concerns before they happen. Communicates any outstanding problem resolution issues with management. Identifies and reduces all risks of loss and/or theft. Actively engages in organizational training opportunities. Participates in all corporate-led training programs and works with management to set training goals and manage training compliance, licenses, and certifications and position-based learning plans. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye contact. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment. Performs other related duties as assigned. This position is subject to work at various MCCS Arts and Crafts locations around Okinawa based on the staffing needs of each facility. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work area is usually adequately lighted, sometimes noisy and dusty. Exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, etc., and injury from framing materials and similar merchandise. Required to wear protective gear when using equipment.
Qualifications: BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 18 years old AND have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school. (Valid documentation will be required upon hire.) Must have 2 years of custom framing experience utilizing various framing machinery and hand tools. Strong knowledge of measuring and calculating sizing for artwork with strong attention to detail. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to perform prolonged standing, walking, using stairs up and down, reaching, lifting, gripping, squeezing. Must be able to carry objects up to 20 lbs. independently. Must be able to accommodate a flexible work schedule to include weekends and evenings. Knowledge of basic accounting and cash handling, and ability to complete Cash Handling Training Course before handling fund and Refresher Course once per year. Able to work at various MCCS Arts and Crafts locations around Okinawa based on the staffing needs of each facility. Ability to exhibit knowledge of composition, design, and color. Intermediate level ability in operating Microsoft Programs such as Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Ability to communicate orally and in writing using tact and courtesy. Possess strong organization skills and attention to detail; a team player and fast learner, actively look for ways to assist customers and be able to take constructive criticism.
