Salary Range: $29.41 - $34.31 Per Hour

Job Summary: This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Senate Office Buildings, Floor Care Unit. Incumbent leads and performs floor and carpet care for facilities of the Senate Office Buildings. Provides training to lower-level workers on floor and carpet care work and maintains a clean and sanitary environment by ensuring all floor surfaces are maintained.

Major Duties:

  • Tour of duty: 9:30 p.m. – 6:00 a.m. Monday – Friday This is an Essential-Employee Position. The employee will be required to report to work during emergencies AND inclement weather situations. Work schedules may require some occasionally mandatory overtime on holidays AND weekends. The individual selected for this position will: Works as a leader by passing on to other co-worker's instructions received from supervisors. Observes work in progress to meet schedules, deadlines and work orders and make sure work was completed as the supervisor instructed. Reports to supervisors the status and progress of work, causes of delays; and overall work operations and problems. Maintains a clean and sanitary environment by ensuring all floor surfaces are maintained in a manner that supports the mission. Works along with other co-workers setting the pace; demonstrate proper work methods; ensure that needed plans, blueprints and materials are obtained. Obtains the necessary information or decisions from supervisor on problems that occur during the work shift hours. Maintains current knowledge on procedures, policies, written instructions and other directives. Performs proper techniques of floor care and preparation of areas to be cleaned, buffed, stripped or waxed as well as carpet cleaning. Must be able to operate and maintain all floor cleaning/finishing equipment to include floor buffer/burnishes, water extraction machine and carpet cleaning equipment. Trains floor maintenance trainees and helpers to perform tasks in floor and carpet care. Moves furniture, heavy equipment and other items to clear floor areas. Vacuum floors as necessary to remove loose debris or dirt. Performs such other tasks as clearing snow and ice from building entrances and capitol grounds, spreading salt and picking up litter. Follows all safety rules, regulations and standard operating procedures.
