Job Description Summary:
Under direct supervision with guidance from the fleet supervisor and other technicians perform or assist in maintenance, minor repair work, and on the job training on light and heavy-duty fleet vehicles and equipment. This includes gas, diesel, electric, alternative fueled, emergency response vehicles and associated operating equipment, and to perform related duties as required.Job Description:
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Assist in Vehicle Diagnostics using automotive scan tools.
Assist in vehicle and equipment inspections.
Performs tire replacement on light and heavy duty vehicles.
Completes or updates related paperwork such as electronic work orders and vehicle parts requests.
Observe and follow all common shop safety standards.
Other shop duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to perform maintenance safely on light and heavy duty vehicles and equipment with the end result of a broader knowledge of the possibilities within the automotive industry.
Ability to use a variety of handtools, power tools, and test devices with or without instruction from other technicians.
Willingness to help with shop cleanliness in the absence of maintenance work.
Ability to work snow shift at irregular times during the winter months, weekends, evenings, holidays, and overtime, if it does not interfere with school.
Available for a minimum of 12 hours in a 2 week period between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Student may need to lift over 30 lbs.
Firm understanding of general shop/vehicle bay safety procedures.
Ability to pass a pre-employment physical.
Ability to stand, kneel, and bend frequently and for extended periods of time; and ability to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and in unpleasant conditions where air contamination, vibration, noise, inclement weather, unclean conditions, confined space, and potentially dangerous heights exist.
Upper body strength to lift and carry items weighting up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work independently after instruction as well as harmoniously with other employees.
Willingness and ability to use personal protective equipment as required.
Ability to follow all applicable OSHA regulations.
Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain acceptable motor vehicle record.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
ASE Certifications
Certification in proper recycling of CFC’s.
Two or more years of trade/technical school experience working as a mechanic in a formal automotive school facility.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Good academic standing and attendance within their vocational/trades institution.
Expected completion of certificate or degree within 12 months, or recent completion of accreditation program within the last 6 months.
