Research Associate, In Vivo Pharmacology

Cambridge, MA Full Time

About Sail:

Sail Biomedicines is pioneering the integrative design and deployment of fully programmable medicines to transform patient care. Sail’s platform combines first-in-class programmable circular RNA technology (Endless RNA™ or eRNA), and an industry-leading platform of programmable nanoparticles, utilizing natural components, to unlock comprehensive programming of medicines for the first time. By leveraging cutting-edge eRNA and nanoparticle deployment technology, Sail is also making unparalleled use of AI techniques to identify and design fully programmable medicines that are potent, targeted, versatile, and tunable. Sail was founded by Flagship Pioneering.

The Role:

Sail Biomedicines is seeking a motivated Research Associate to join our In Vivo Pharmacology team. This lab-based, onsite role will support the execution of preclinical rodent studies and generate high-quality in vivo data to advance discovery and development programs.

The ideal candidate is a strong hands-on experimentalist with demonstrated technical efficiency in conducting rodent studies, including dosing, sample collection, necropsy, and tissue processing. In addition to strong technical execution, this individual should have a clear interest in understanding how in vivo pharmacology data informs project decisions, including compound profiling, PK/PD relationships, and overall program progression. This role is well suited for someone who thrives at the bench, works with precision and urgency, and wants to connect excellent study execution to broader scientific impact.

Responsibilities:

In Vivo Study Execution

  • Support and execute in vivo pharmacology studies in rodent models in an onsite research setting.
  • Perform routine animal procedures including handling, restraint, clinical observations, dosing, sample collection, and necropsy.
  • Conduct dosing through multiple routes of administration, including:
    • Subcutaneous (SC)
    • Intramuscular (IM)
    • Intravenous (IV, including retro-orbital)
    • Intraperitoneal (IP)
    • Oral gavage (PO)
  • Safely perform survival and terminal blood collection procedures
  • Anesthetize rodents using isoflurane
  • Carry out necropsy and tissue collection with attention to timing, consistency, and study quality.

Sample Processing and Documentation

  • Process biological samples and tissues following collection to support downstream analyses.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation of experimental procedures, observations, and study results.
  • Ensure careful data capture and strong documentation practices to support study reports, data integrity, and reproducibility.
  • Organize study materials, samples, and records to enable efficient study conduct and cross-team communication.

Data Analysis and Scientific Contribution

  • Analyze experimental data using GraphPad Prism or related tools and prepare clear summaries, figures, and data presentations.
  • Communicate study results and observations to team members in a clear and organized manner.
  • Contribute to discussions on study outcomes by connecting experimental findings to pharmacology goals and project needs.
  • Develop an understanding of how in vivo endpoints, study design, and execution quality influence decision-making and project advancement.

Team and Operational Excellence

  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced research environment.
  • Operate with a high degree of technical rigor, organization, and efficiency across multiple studies and priorities.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to animal welfare, safe laboratory practices, and high-quality scientific execution.

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Biology, Pharmacology, Immunology, Cell Biology, Regenerative Medicine, or a related scientific discipline.
  • 3+ years of relevant hands-on in vivo experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in rodent handling and in vivo study procedures, including multiple dosing routes, blood collection, and necropsy.
  • Experience wet lab sample processing and storage
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard data visualization tools.
  • Strong organizational skills and close attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience analyzing and presenting experimental data using GraphPad Prism or similar software.
  • Experience with Bioluminescent imaging and image analysis.
