Job Summary: Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) is looking for the best and brightest to join our Team! Major Duties:

  • Majority of the incumbents time will be spent supervising staff in the daily operations of the facility. Responsible for the overall operation and control of the area recreational programs, property and equipment. Supervises layout and cleanliness of the fitness center, High Intensity Tactical Training (HITT) center, and surrounding areas such as parking lots, tracks, and fields. Facility is open 24/7 and includes the operation of unmanned hours. Responsible for the purchase, upkeep, accurate inventory, and maintenance of equipment and property. May receive and register payment for services using a cash register. Responsible for training, scheduling of work shifts, performance appraisals, and supervision of civilian and/or active duty staff. Deals with staff and patrons to resolve complaints and grievances. Sometime will be spent fitness programming in the facility and helping with department and Semper Fit objectives throughout the base. This includes conducting biometric assessments such as body fat, blood pressure, resting metabolic testing, VO2 max testing, and cholesterol testing; teaching group exercise classes and/or lecture-based health classes; helping with strength and conditioning events and Human Performance programs and conducting camp challenges. Supports all Warrior Athlete Readiness and Resilience (WARR) programming and services and Marine Corps Total Fitness (MCTF) strategy. Consistently provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye contact. Asks questions to determine, verify, and solve problems. Checks for patron satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts supervisor, or proper point of contact to assist when problems arise. Performs other related duties as assigned. FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages financial budgets for the facility. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Government Purchase Card. Provides equipment purchasing suggestions and supporting data for new policies, programs, or budgets. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides oversight and support for athletic events, facility specialty events. Develops and administers special projects and special events within the Human Performance and Resiliency Department. Support active duty requests, Force Fitness Instructors (FFI), and unit recreation. Must support other programs within Semper Fit when called upon such as the Hard Corps Race Series, Active Duty Unit Recreation, Athletics, etc. Maintains confidentially of Personally Identifiable Information (PII). Restricts access to an individuals¿ private medical information (HIPPA). Engages in open lines of communication. WORKING CONDITIONS: Applicants must be able to work nights and weekends. This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance. May perform landscaping such as grass cutting and weed removal. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Actively supports established principles of EEO and prevention of sexual harassment programs.

Qualifications: Baccalaureate degree required in exercise science, exercise physiology, kinesiology, fitness or related field from an accredited college or university and three years appropriate experience that demonstrates that the applicant has acquired the knowledge, skills and abilities equivalent to that gained in the above. Personal trainer certification from a nationally accredited certifying organization or obtain certification within 6 months of employment. Group Exercise certification from a nationally accredited certifying organization or obtain certification within 6 months of employment. Possess and maintain a valid drivers license. Must be certified in CPR within 6 months of employment. All certifications must be maintained during position employment. Proficient in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook (email), Windows, and navigating the web. Possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Competencies to successfully plan, organize, and supervise. Capacity to maintain effective working relationships with other personnel, both inside and outside the organization. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Grandfather clause: Semper Fit employees hired prior to 2012, that do not meet the required education, certification, and/or work experience qualifications as outlined in MCO 1700.29 shall be grandfathered in their current positions. As positions are vacated through retirements, transfers or attrition, the new hires shall meet the required qualifications as outlined in this policy.
