Major Duties:

  • If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team as a Financial Litigation Technician with the United States Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of Virginia. Typical work assignments will include: Developing, analyzing and evaluating information regarding financial assets to ascertain the true nature of debtors present and future potential ability to pay their judgment debt. Initiating contact with debtors concerning payment of their obligations, their ability to pay, and negotiating written payment schedules to assure successful collection of debts. Reviewing and evaluating the range of asset identification and debt collection processes to determine the adequacy of current operations and to develop recommendations for improvements. Interpreting and enforcing judgments in criminal cases and independently performing all functions to collect amounts imposed as a result of the prosecution of criminal cases. Amounts imposed may include criminal fines, assessments, interest' penalties' restitution, appearance bond forfeitures, criminal forfeitures and court costs. Reviewing and analyzing claims for legal merit and compliance with the Federal Debt Collection Procedures Act. Working closely with supervisor or Assistant United States Attorney's (AUSAs) in making recommendations concerning settlements, write-offs and liquidations of civil and or criminal judgments. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications: GS-7: To be eligible at the GS-7 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level. Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is defined as experience communicating with debtors on payment plans, answering questions, explaining procedures regarding financial litigation; processing debt collection for criminal and civil debts; drafting, preparing letters, forms and reports to initiate the collection of debts. Entering and tracking financial data in automated systems and spreadsheets. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
