The Financial Analyst is responsible for the Company’s preparation and coordination of external consolidated financial statements and management discussion and analysis (MD&A). This position is also responsible for consolidation of the annual budget including a multi-year financial plan and forecast along with assisting in preparation of reports to senior management and the Board of Directors. The Financial Analyst oversees the day-to-day accounting for assigned corporate-level accounts/transactions, makes decisions on how to display and explain financial results and is responsible to identify trouble spots and follow up on trends or issues that will be of concern to senior management. This position is responsible for maintaining the Company’s financial accounting policies and for ensuring that the financial reports are accurate, complete and in compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) disclosure requirements and the Company’s financial accounting policies while ensuring compliance with internal controls over financial reporting carried out by the Corporate Reporting group.Job Description

Key Accountabilities:
Preparation of external consolidated financial statements and MD&A in compliance with IFRS Accounting Standards and CSA requirements, leveraging analysis and information from other Finance groups.
Assist in the coordination and preparation of journal entries, financial reconciliations and supporting analyses to support internal financial reporting and quarterly review and year-end audit of the Company’s financial statements by the external auditors.
Identify anomalies and deficiencies, develop options, and recommend the implementation of solutions to accounting discrepancies and reconciliations, to ensure stringent financial management and quality assurance and reporting.
Preparation of budgets and forecasts for assigned corporate-level accounts/transactions and the consolidation of the annual budget, including a multi-year financial plan and forecast. Collaborate with other Finance groups on reports and analysis of the data. Assist in providing senior management and the Board of Directors with accurate, complete and timely consolidated budget and forecast reports.
Maintain the Company’s suite of financial accounting policies and ensure compliance with IFRS Accounting Standards. Keep abreast of emerging IFRS Accounting Standards and CSA disclosure requirements and provide timely analysis of impacts of relevant changes to senior management and the Board of Directors.
Coordinate internal and cross-functional project activities related to the application of IFRS Accounting Standards and CSA reporting requirements. Partner with key stakeholders across the Company to implement changes to accounting policies. Assist in preparation of regular briefings to senior management and the Board of Directors.
Identify, research and provide recommendations for accounting treatments for complex accounting transactions that ensure adherence to IFRS Accounting Standards and the Company’s policies. This includes providing advice and support to departments as well as other Financial Analysts and Finance groups on accounting or reporting related inquiries.
Responsible for the day-to-day management of the financial disclosure management tool including recommending enhancements and participating in testing when upgrades or enhancements are implemented.
Collaborate with the Accounting Operations group on the day-to-day management of the financial accounting and budgeting systems, including recommending enhancements and participating in testing when upgrades or enhancements are implemented and identifying impacts on related financial systems and reports.
Provide additional support including ad hoc analysis to other finance teams as delegated by the Manager, Corporate Reporting.
Job Requirements
Education:
University degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
Chartered Professional Accountant designation
Experience:
Minimum of five years of progressive experience in financial accounting and financial analysis
Experience in a regulated or complex organizational environment
Knowledge :
Strong knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) disclosure requirements
Strong knowledge of internal controls over financial reporting
Proficient knowledge of computer-based accounting and office management systems and applications
Good knowledge of NAV CANADA’s mandate, operations and business activities
Practical knowledge of financial and human resource management
Familiarity with audit processes, including coordinating with external and internal auditors
Abilities :
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability to prepare financial statements, MD&A and other management or business reports
Effective presentation skills, including the ability to clearly communicate findings and recommendations
Strong written and verbal communication skills to provide functional guidance to co-workers and manage relationship with external auditor

Working conditions
This position is hybrid 3 days on site based at Ottawa Head Office
