About the role

AGL is one of the big three energy gentailers in Australia, driving the energy transition for the nation. The Group Accounting & Governance team is at the heart of supporting AGL’s strategy by pioneering our finance support and system enablement.

Join our dynamic team, where you'll be at the heart of driving financial excellence and robust governance across all Group activities, including parent entity accounting, investments, treasury accounting and more. Here, you’ll play a key role in shaping financial processes and its related systems, policies, and control frameworks, while collaborating with driven professionals committed to continuous improvement and innovation.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Play a key role in the monthend close for the Investments business unit, covering equity accounting, fair value movements, budgeting and forecasting and, importantly, turning the numbers into clear, insightful commentary.
  • Help keep AGL’s cashflow reporting sharp and reliable by maintaining and improving system rules, and partnering with stakeholders to identify and resolve imbalances efficiently at month end.
  • Collaborate with segment capital accountants and our offshore team to deliver comprehensive monthly capital project reports including grouplevel insights on capital expenditure.
  • Take ownership of monthly intercompany reconciliations and the calculation of intercompany loans and interest, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Champion monthly controls testing by proactively engaging and coordinating with control owners, ensuring compliance with the AGL Risk and Controls Matrix (RACM).
  • Support the wider finance team with the completion of their reconciliations in Blackline, AGL’s reconciliation application, and partner with the Finance System & Transformation team in implementing related enhancements.
  • Lead the refresh and enhancement of finance policies, procedures, and documentation, keeping them practical, current, and fit for purpose.
  • Support monthly BAS reporting and GST/FBT account reconciliations.
  • Lead and support ad hoc projects as and when they arise. Including partnering with other teams on implementing impactful transformation initiatives.
  • Provide backup and support to the wider Accounting, Reporting & Governance team. Opportunities to learn from outside your day-to-day remit.

What You'll Bring:

  • Strong attention to detail: you take pride in delivering highquality work and hitting deadlines, even during busy monthend cycles.
  • A genuine willingness to learn: you don’t need to know everything on day one, but you’re curious, openminded, and keen to keep building your skills.
  • An improvement mindset: you enjoy questioning the status quo, spotting better ways of working, and contributing ideas that improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Clear, confident communication skills: comfortable building relationships and working collaboratively with both finance and nonfinance stakeholders.
  • Comfort working autonomously: without losing the team mindset, you can own your work endtoend while actively supporting and learning from others.
  • CA or CPA qualified or currently working towards qualification.
  • SAP experience will be highly regarded.
  • Energy industry experience is a bonus, but not essential — we value strong fundamentals and the right mindset.
