Dell Medical School is seeking a Financy Business Analyst. This position with an end date of 08/31/27, renewable based upon availability of funding, work performance, and progress toward research goals.


Purpose


The Finance Business Analyst is a individual contributor who supports operational and financial performance across the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences. This role provides analytical and budgeting support for multiple initiatives and funding sources, including but not limited to the Texas Child Mental Healthcare Consortium (TMHCC). The Finance Business Analyst performs financial and operational analyses, assists with the development of reports. This position collaborates with program and departmental stakeholders as well as financial workflows within the department.

Responsibilities

Financial Analysis and Budget Monitoring

  • Analyzes revenue, expenditures, and resource utilization to ensure budget alignment.

  • Performs variance analysis and identifies financial trends.

  • Confirms transaction coding accuracy and monitors programmatic expenses.

  • Collaborates with finance and program teams to ensure accurate ledger entries.

  • Supports budget preparation and forecasting activities.


Operational Process Improvement

  • Identifies inefficiencies and bottlenecks in workflows.

  • Develops and implements process improvement strategies.

  • Conducts audits to inform operational enhancements.

  • Creates workflow charts and models to visualize opportunities.

  • Documents process improvements and maintains records of changes and outcomes.

Data Reporting and Visualization

  • Develops and maintains dashboards using MS Power BI or similar tools. 

  • Prepares standard and ad-hoc reports for internal stakeholders. 

  • Translates complex data into actionable insights. 

  • Automates recurring reports and data workflows to improve efficiency. 

  • Ensures data integrity and consistency across reporting systems.

Strategic Planning and Program Support

  • Provides analytic support for program reviews and strategic initiatives.

  • Builds financial models to support long-term planning.

  • Collaborates with program partners and leadership to align data with organizational goals.

  • Assists in scenario planning and resource allocation.

Assists with Program Financials

  • Supports budget development for programs.

  • Assists in monitoring programs financial performance and compliance.

  • Prepares financial documentation for program reporting and audits.

  • Collaborates with administration and operations teams ensuring programmatic alignment

  • Tracks effort reporting and allowable expenses and regulatory requirements

Stakeholder Communication and Collaboration

  • Communicates findings and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Escalates issues and provides status updates on deliverables.

  • Builds relationships across departments to support cross-functional initiatives.

  • Participates in meetings and workshops to gather requirements.

Required Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field with at least 2 year(s) of experience in relevant experience in financial analysis, budgeting, business operations, or data analytics.

Demonstrated proficiency in MS Excel. 

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or Finance with at least 3 year(s) of experience in healthcare, academic, or research setting.

  • Experience with MS Power BI, Tableau, SQL, or ERP systems. 

  • Familiarity with sponsored projects, clinical trials, or clinical operations.

  • Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Professional Certified.

  • Tableau Desktop Specialist.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP).

  • Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP).

Salary Range

$68,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions
