Federal Account Manager - Mid Atlantic

AstraZeneca is advancing respiratory care—and we are seeking a Federal Account Manager (FAM) who will lead with purpose across the U.S. Federal healthcare ecosystem. This role is dedicated exclusively to Federal Government treatment facilities, including the Department of Defense (DoD), Veterans Affairs (VA), and Indian Health Service (IHS). With a focus on Respiratory Biologics and Respiratory Inhaled Therapies, you will be part of a specialized team that commits 100% of its time to Federal customers, bringing transformative therapies to those who have served and to communities in need.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

 

As the Federal Account Manager, you will be the primary contact for senior collaborators at complex DOD Military Treatment Facilities, Veterans Affairs Medical Centers, and IHS sites. You will cultivate high-trust, cross-functional relationships spanning medical leadership, pharmacy, case management, quality, and clinical services across Pulmonology, Allergy/Immunology, Internal Medicine, and Primary Care. Your remit covers a multi-state geography and requires sophisticated account leadership, rigorous planning, and flawless execution

 

You will: 

  • Build and complete strategic account plans tailored to each facility and network's dynamics. Base these plans on deep knowledge of market demographics, federal payers, patient populations, and local care pathways.  

  • Partner closely with Federal Market Access leadership to align on quality programs, initiatives, EMR integrations, and evidence-based treatment algorithms for targeted populations—translating insights into practical, scalable solutions for customers. 

  • Leverage formulary access and approvals through disciplined implementation of the Strategic Targeting Plan, ensuring pull-through that is consistent with portfolio and brand strategies. 

  • Collaborate across the Biopharma Business Unit (BBU) and with Sales Leadership, National and Regional Account Directors, Scientific Affairs, and State Government Affairs to deploy a coordinated national strategy that delivers measurable growth in portfolio performance. 

  • Serve as a force multiplier for the Federal National Account Director, aligning field execution with national priorities, while adapting to evolving customer and market requirements. 

  • Communicate customer-specific findings, program outcomes, and opportunities across internal collaborators to sharpen execution, elevate customer experience, and accelerate adoption where clinically appropriate.

Success in this role will be defined by your ability to synthesize complex systems-level insights, anticipate change, and translate strategy into action. You will demonstrate mastery of our respiratory portfolio, disease-state and pathway knowledge, and the unique drivers of Federal care delivery to ensure every brand is positioned with clinical integrity and operational relevance. Above all, you will champion projects and initiatives that advance access, quality, and continuity of care for Federal patient populations—delivering impact that is both measurable and meaningful. 

Essential Requirements 

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university 

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in at least one of the following: 

o Pharmaceutical sales  

o Biotech or Healthcare sales in multiple customer segments 

o Account-based management or consulting in the healthcare segment 

• A valid driver’s license and safe driving record 

• Willingness to travel. Travel can be 75%+ depending on location. 

Desirable Requirements 

• Military Treatment Facility and/or Veteran’s Administration sales experience to include Command Structure and Federal Culture 

• Hospital or account management experience with proven ability to influence collaborators  

• Strong networking skills with proven to gain access in limited access facilities 

• Ability to understand customer specific needs, identify resources and opportunities to partner 

 Demonstrated leadership, project management and strong management skills  

• Capability to learn, analyze, understand, and convey complex information 

• Ability to work with, influence and collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders 

 Demonstrated organizational, communication and platform skills 

• Military Veteran and/or VA Experience

The annual base salary (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $161,856-242,785. However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.  In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles) or to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
