The Opportunity:

The Washington State University (WSU) Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center (IAREC) has been conducting research in Prosser for over 100 years.  Located north of the City of Prosser, IAREC focuses on agricultural research benefiting the many crops grown in the Yakima Valley and across the state.

As part of the Farm Crew, the Farmer 2 will assist with farm duties at WSU research locations, primarily in Prosser. Duties will include on farm assistance, such as ground preparation, irrigation, and crop planting and harvesting, under the direction of researchers, the assistant farm manager and the farm manager. This position often assists with grounds maintenance, such as mowing, snow removal and road maintenance, and basic equipment maintenance and repair. When needed, assistance with general building maintenance, including minor repairs and custodial services, may be required. This position works most often outdoors in variable conditions.

Additional Information:

This is a full time (100% FTE), permanent. This position is overtime eligible.
 

This a , 9-month cyclic appointment, working March through November each year.


Monthly Salary: $3,336 - $4,428 | Range 37 Steps A - M | Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience in farm work or maintaining livestock; OR equivalent education/experience.

  • Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards. 

  • Ability to operate, repair and maintain farm and other related equipment.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish

  • Work experience at a research farm
