QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or G.E.D.
One year of general experience in building maintenance, construction, or trade labor.
Preferred understanding of carpentry, electrical, or building maintenance
Possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license with evidence of a safe driving record
Experience interacting with the general public.
Ability to pass Sheriff's background clearance and Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) prior to employment as required for work performed in the Jail facility.
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered.
Knowledge of....use of tools and materials used in the custodial work and in commercial building maintenance and repair; mechanical systems, such as fire suppression systems,; safety and accident prevention practices; basic recordkeeping and reporting methods.
Ability to.... assist with routine repairs on mechanical, electrical systems, and carpentry; use and maintenance of shop equipment and tools; read, write and perform basic math; demonstrate sufficient strength, agility and dexterity to perform the work of the position; communicate effectively with others encountered in the course of the work.
Selection Process:

Oral Interview - The interview will be job related and may include, not limited to, the qualifications outlined in the job announcement. Top candidate(s) will continue in the process.

It is general policy of the County that new employees should be hired at the lower steps of the applicable range and advance through the range at the normal progression.

KEY OR TYPICAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions of this class.)
Coordinates with and oversees contracted janitorial service throughout the County buildings, or provides the service when contractors are not available;
Gathers tools and supplies to be used at the work site.
Responds to calls for immediate repair of County buildings, which may include repairing beds, bunks, windows, screens, desks, tables, doors, and removing graffiti, boarding up broken windows, doors, etc.
Responds to requests from journey-level specialists for support and assistance on major repairs and projects.
Performs related maintenance support tasks as requested and as necessary.
Maintain county fire extinguisher program.
Trash and recycling removal and disposal from County buildings and project sites. May include transport and disposal of hazardous materials, including paint, caustic chemicals, and construction debris.
Surplus moves, which would include office furniture and supplies.
Bio cleanups, removal and transportation on all County buildings and property. Trash removal of all County buildings and property. Which may include removal of transient camps, trash, and waste products, any of which may be considered infectious waste.
Event setups and coordination (e.g. Hearing meetings, event tent and table setups for outdoor events). Coordinate with individual’s requesting assistance for events.
Pest control not covered by contractors at all County buildings and property.
General exterior/ interior building maintenance, which could include graffiti removal, small outdoor damage to buildings, litter pick up, painting or assisting with parking lots, pressure washing and grounds clean up. Assist Fire Marshal with building inspections.
Material handling and equipment repair on pressure washers, fire extinguisher refilling, air hoses and other small equipment as needed.
Snow and Ice removal from sidewalks and building entries
Other duties as assigned.
