Polypipe Building Services houses well-known industry brand Terrain and has been delivering systems to commercial, high rise residential, healthcare, education and leisure projects for over 50 years.
Role Overview: To provide technical and process support to the production area and personnel. To identify, support and implement processes and plant that have the effect of reducing production costs and improving quality, departmental performance and production efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and deliver training for yourself and production personnel on processes, materials, and tooling.
Support the production team in assessing technical skillsets to help identify suitable candidates for Production Technician vacancies.
Plan, organise and conduct tooling, process, and material trials to drive operational improvements and efficiency gains.
Provide process support to production teams to help achieve targets, including output, scrap reduction, and SMED performance.
Oversee screw and barrel maintenance, including accurate record-keeping.
Lead and support health and safety improvements, ensuring timely completion of risk-assessment actions.
Support—and where agreed, manage—projects that contribute to production goals, such as material cost reduction, output improvement, 6S, SMED, and new equipment introduction.
Collaborate closely with Engineering, Process Engineering, Automation, and Production teams to continually improve existing and new plant, equipment, and processes.
Prepare and present feasibility reports (including capex requirements) for identified improvement opportunities.
Ensure improvement projects are fully embedded with local teams for a smooth transition into routine production.
Work with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to ensure new equipment is specified exactly to PBS requirements.
Proactively research developments within the Polypipe Group, among suppliers, and across wider manufacturing industries to identify relevant innovations.
Liaise with production teams across the Polypipe Group to share knowledge and best practices.

Skills & Requirements:
Strong knowledge of extrusion processes, ideally supported by a minimum HNC qualification in an engineering discipline (electrical, mechanical, process engineering or tooling).
Willingness to broaden technical knowledge into injection moulding to support fault-finding and process improvements (experience beneficial but not essential).
Familiarity with SMED, 6S and continuous improvement (CI) methodologies.
Effective communication skills with the ability to engage internal stakeholders, project teams and external tooling suppliers.
Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve production faults.
Excellent organisational and prioritisation abilities.
Willingness to travel to external suppliers, including internationally.
Understanding of manufacturing health & safety requirements (IOSH or equivalent training desirable).
Good working knowledge of planned maintenance systems and standards.
Computer literate, with proficiency in Microsoft Access, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
Experience with PVC building product processes is desirable.
Self-motivated, with the ability to work to tight deadlines both independently and as part of a team.
