Position Details:

Summary of Duties:

As the Extension Coordinator, you will provide oversight and leadership for outreach and engagement within the Washington State University (WSU) Forest Health Lab at the Puyallup Research and Extension Center. In this role, you will develop informal and formal education programs related to tree health, invasive species, urban forestry, and community science. Your duties will include developing curriculum and programming, coordinating internships, leading training activities, organizing webinars, designing newsletters, providing guest lectures, presenting at meetings, tabling at events, and managing other outreach and engagement activities. You will also lead evaluations of program impacts and develop best practices for measuring success. Key tasks include co-designing educational materials with Tribal communities, coordinating a 10-week summer internship program, organizing webinars for public and stakeholder audiences, and engaging participants in the Forest Health Watch program. You will collaborate with other extension program staff, community partners, students, the public, and other stakeholders to ensure programs and activities meet the guidelines, expectations, objectives, policies, and procedures of WSU Extension and the WSU Forest Health Lab under the direction of WSU faculty.

Additional Information:

This is a full time (100% FTE), temporary position. This position is overtime eligible.
 

Temporary End Date:

This is a temporary position that is renewed on an annual basis. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.

Monthly Salary:

$4,050.92 - $4,940.13 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant extension program discipline and two (2) years of related program experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

  • Computer literacy – capacity to develop presentations, track hours, design flyers, etc.

  • Technical writing experience.

  • Basic understanding of biology and ecology.

  • Experience with community engagement or outreach.

  • This position requires the ability to travel and work a flexible schedule during the week including nights and weekends occasionally requiring overnight travel.

  • Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, or natural resource related fields.

  • Advanced computer literacy – capacity to collect and manage data in excel and visualize in r, capacity for graphic design with adobe, canva, or other graphic software.

  • Experience with geographic information system (GIS) and creating Storymaps with ArcGIS Online.

  • Experience in preparing newsletters in Mailchimp or similar.

  • Experience in web design with Wordpress and basic web accessibility practices.

  • Experience with video editing.

  • Experience developing and conducting participant evaluations.

  • Experience in organizing and hosting webinars or online workshops.

  • Experience identifying trees and/or invasive species.

  • Experience in managing volunteers.

  • Experience in developing curriculum.

  • Demonstrated development of community partnerships.
