Executive Director

Columbia, MO Full time

Whether you come from a background in nonprofit leadership, education, social services, or community outreach, you can be successful in this role. We don’t require a specific degree or experience, but we’re looking for translatable skills and relevant expertise. We will provide you with the training and development opportunities needed to build a meaningful career here!

About The Role:

As an Executive Director, you’ll lead the vision, strategy, and day-to-day operations of Flourish, helping ensure every program and initiative aligns with the organization’s mission and long-term goals. You’ll guide teams, strengthen partnerships, support the Board of Directors, and help create opportunities that positively impact youth and families in the community.

This is a dynamic leadership role where no two days look exactly the same. One day you might be building relationships with community partners or presenting to stakeholders, and the next you could be collaborating with your team on strategic planning, program growth, or funding opportunities. If you’re passionate about servant leadership, building strong teams, and making a lasting impact, this could be the role for you.

Here’s a snapshot of what you’d be doing:

  • Developing, implementing, and evaluating programs based on identified community needs while planning for future growth opportunities.

  • Leading organizational strategy by setting measurable goals, tracking progress, and adjusting plans to support long-term success and sustainability.

  • Supporting and developing employees through leadership, performance management, coaching, and relationship building.

  • Partnering closely with the Board of Directors by providing updates, strengthening engagement, and supporting organizational governance.

  • Serving as a liaison between Flourish and partner organizations to ensure strong collaboration and alignment.

  • Building and maintaining relationships with community organizations, donors, government agencies, and stakeholders to expand support and funding opportunities.

  • Managing organizational budgets and financial operations with a focus on transparency, accountability, and long-term sustainability.

  • Representing Flourish within the community as a visible, approachable, and passionate advocate for the organization’s mission.

  • Preparing reports, supporting audits and compliance efforts, and ensuring the organization operates within applicable laws and regulations.

  • Pitching in wherever needed to help foster a supportive and collaborative team culture.

About You:

  • You’re a relationship builder who knows how to connect with people from all backgrounds and create trust within teams and communities.

  • You lead with empathy, integrity, and accountability while helping others feel supported, valued, and motivated.

  • You thrive in fast-paced environments and know how to balance strategy, people leadership, and day-to-day operations.

  • Strong communication comes naturally to you, whether you’re presenting to a Board, collaborating with co-workers, or speaking with community partners.

  • You’re highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities without losing sight of the bigger picture.

  • You enjoy solving problems, thinking strategically, and making thoughtful decisions that positively impact people and programs.

  • You’re passionate about supporting youth, families, and underserved communities.

  • You have experience supervising and developing teams while fostering positive employee relationships.

  • You show up consistently and can be counted on to get the job done.

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field such as Social Work, Education, Sociology, Human Development, Public Health, or a similar area, and/or experience working within education or community human service organizations.

  • You bring 5+ years of senior leadership experience within a nonprofit organization, foundation, or government agency.

  • You hold a valid Missouri driver’s license and can successfully complete state and federal background screenings.
