About this role

Responsible for providing leadership, strategic planning, development, and administrative oversight of the center. Serves as the dean of academic affairs for the center. Forges partnerships with the student services administration to ensure coordination between student services and instructional programs in support of student success. Acts as a liaison to the surrounding community, business groups, and schools as a recognized leader to promote programs and provide further educational momentum to the center and a diverse student body.

What a day of an Executive Dean, Center looks like:

  • Provides leadership in fulfilling the mission of the center and collaborates with college administration to ensure the effective attainment of college and center goals, objectives, and development initiatives. Develops long-range and short-term goals, objectives, priorities, and recommendations.

  • Guides, leads, reviews, verifies, observes, and manages the work of direct and indirect reports. Monitors and evaluates the performance of employees.

  • Maintains a climate in support of multicultural diversity that promotes academic achievement, student success, and professional and personal development for administration, faculty, staff, and students.

  • Plans and implements special events on a wide range of topics and fundraising opportunities, utilizing private and public assets.

  • Analyzes class and program needs of the College. Determines and recommends the retention or deletion of courses.

  • Assists faculty in the development of course and program curriculum, program and course reviews, and articulation activities.

  • Acts as a college liaison for programs and services with outside agencies or community leaders. Communicates program information internally and externally.

  • Responds to complex inquiries from all levels of employees or external sources regarding a variety of questions, such as clarification of center policy and procedures.

  • Directs and oversees comprehensive budget for the center. Monitors and holds self and staff accountable for financial practices that promote sound fiscal management.

  • Attends professional association meetings and community events as required. Travels to meetings, between College locations, and for other purposes.

  • Participates in and manages all phases of a project. Plans and oversees the preparations and dissemination of project communications. Produces related project reports, as needed.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree

  • Eight years of related experience

  • Supervisory experience and education administration experience

Knowledge of:

  • Federal, state, and local education laws and guidelines

  • Management principles, practices, and procedures

  • Microsoft Office Professional or similar application

Skilled in:                

  • Attention to detail while maintaining effective time and task management

  • Strategic thinking including effective planning, setting goals, monitoring progress, tracking results, and making appropriate adjustments to plans based on circumstances and context

  • Mentoring team members to develop goal-setting plans, share knowledge and experiences

  • Motivating employees to apply the effort necessary to attain organizational and departmental goals

  • Managing and resolving conflict in a positive manner

  • Research and data analysis to arrive at valid conclusions, recommendations and plans of action

Ability to:

  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing on a regular basis with internal and external customers, build relationships, manage customer expectations, and take responsibility for a high level of service

  • Think critically and creatively, have a high standard of integrity, and be motivated to incorporate best practices into the organizational culture

  • Gain the confidence and respect of diverse stakeholders in order to work effectively and build relationships of trust

  • Collect, organize, analyze, and present information in a meaningful manner

  • Make lively and effective presentations

  • Accurately manage a budget

  • Interact in a positive manner with diverse populations and varying education levels of students, faculty, staff, and the public

Licenses, Registration, Certifications, or Special Requirements:

  • Valid Florida driver’s license

  • Some periods throughout the year will require extended work hours including nights, weekends, and college closures

  • Regular physical attendance required

Preferred, but not a must:

Education and Experience:

  • Doctorate degree

  • Experience in higher education administration

Work Environment and Physical Demand:

  • Reach and grasp objects

  • Stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl

  • Use of video display terminal

  • Use of manual dexterity and fine motor skills

  • Communicate information orally and in writing

  • Receive and understand information through oral and written communication

  • Proofread and check documents for accuracy

  • Operate a motor vehicle

  • Work a fluctuating work schedule

The minimum base pay for this position starts at $87,971.00 annually; however, the offer may vary based on the candidate’s education and experience.
