Job Summary: This position is located in the Community Recreation Branch, Recreation Division, Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Department, Naval Station Great Lakes.

Major Duties:

  • 30% 1. Performs a variety of maintenance duties which will include, not bot be limited to, cleaning, adjusting, repairing and replacing broken, lost , and worn parts on a variety of equipment such as lanterns, stoves, ice chests, canoes, kayak, water bikes, back packs, fishing reels and poles, inflatable units, tables, chairs, grills, campers, tents, archery equipment, bicycles, boats, motors and trailers, etc. 25% 2. Ensures all equipment is in good operating condition when issued. Operates forklifts in warehouse to load and unload rental equipment from rack storage for customers. Receives and inspects returned equipment, inspecting each time for cleanliness and damage. Communicates with customer service staff about any damage to the gear that has returned. 20% 3. Instructs the patron and other staff in the safe and effective use of rental equipment. Assists in the equipment security, patron education and equipment appearance. Assist with the checking out and in of rental equipment. 10% 4. Uses technical manuals, catalogs, and other data, including contact with vendors, to research the ordering of parts, equipment, tools, and other materials necessary to support and maintain, replace and repair recreation and marina equipment. 10% 5. Performs waterfront related duties, including customer assistance with rental items, preparing harbor for season and securing facilities for winter months. Work includes operating con-o-lift trailer, hoisting tackle, mast stepping crane, boat, assembly of docks and mooring in the harbor, repairs through minor carpentry and mechanical skills to equipment necessary of these, chairs, grills, campers, tents, archery equipment, bicycles, boats, motors and trailers, etc. 5% 6. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Resumes must include information which demonstrates experience and knowledge, skills, and ability (KSAs) as they relate to this position. Applicants are encouraged to be clear and specific when describing their experience level and KSAs. A qualified candidate must possess: Experience in repairs of a wide variety of equipment. Must have knowledge in boat handling, use of cutting equipment, bike repairs, and engine repairs. Must have a license to operate a 6K forklift. Must be organized and capable of establishing regular cycle for equipment preventative maintenance. Must be able to learn MWR policies, rules, and regulations, involving the Community Recreation program. Must have ability to communicate orally and in writing. Successful completion of a national Agency check is required. Employee is required to have a valid state drivers' license. Position may require irregular working hours. Obtain Emergency First Responder or CPR Certification, Food Handlers, and C.A.R.E. training where applicable within the first 90 days of employment.
