SaskEnergy is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team. The Equipment Operator operates and maintains vehicles, tools and equipment while performing a variety of manual and skilled duties associated with the installation, service, maintenance and repair of natural gas systems and facilities in accordance with standards, specifications and accepted industry practices.

Position Details

  • Union. Temporary full time up to 12 months.

  • Multiple positions available.

Core Responsibilities

Construction Activity

  • Operate truck and trailer vehicles (such as boom trucks, highway tractors, highboy/lowboy trailers, hydro-vac, etc.) for transporting equipment and materials.

  • Load and unload construction equipment and related material.

  • Operate construction equipment (such as backhoes, excavators, trenchers, side booms, etc.) for the installation, service, maintenance and repair of natural gas systems (for example trenching, backfilling, installing and repairing steel and polyethylene pipe).

  • Perform maintenance and service of construction equipment, truck and trailer vehicles ensuring their safe and efficient operation.

  • Assist and perform various construction duties for the installation, maintenance and repair of natural gas distribution and transmission facilities.  Including cut, coat and wrap steel pipe, cut and fuse polyethylene pipe, tap (isolate pipeline or redirect gas flow) distribution mains for the connection of service lines, pipe fitting, assemble and disassemble mechanical components, perform and assist with high-pressure taps, as well as performing other duties such as: hand shoveling, raking, sweeping, priming and painting, landscaping, rough carpentry, cement work, etc.

Planning & Administration

  • Plan for safe work procedures and take every reasonable precaution to protect self, other employees and the general public in the performance of duties by adhering to safety, policies and procedures.

  • Participate in incident prevention, hazard assessments and hazard and incident reporting.

  • Keep workshop and worksites clean, organized and free from unnecessary hazards.

  • Complete required information (such as permits, pre-trip inspections, logbooks, power mobile equipment inspections, transport documents, hazard assessments, material management reconciliations, etc.).

  • Complete basic survey and as-built requirements and document changes on engineering diagrams.

  • Stay informed and perform work in compliance of changing Department of Transportation regulations and Highway Acts and amendments.

Qualifications

Education

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.

  • Valid Class 1A driver’s license (copy must accompany job applications).

Experience

  • Two (2) years’ work experience, within the last five (5) years, operating a variety of construction, and/or industrial equipment such as haul trucks, backhoes, excavators, trenchers, side booms.

Note:

  • Otherwise qualified applicants who do not possess a 1A driver’s license are required to obtain the license prior to the expiration of the probationary period.  On a one-time basis, the Company will pay the tuition fees for 1A training at an established educational institution and provincial examination fees during this time period.  The applicants are required to attend any training and/or examinations on their own time.

  • Successful candidates hired without a 1A driver’s license will be subject to a one (1) year probationary period.

  • This job is routinely scheduled for standby.

  • This job is subject to call-out situations.

  • Travel, including overnight stays away from bid headquarters is required.

  • This job requires significant travel time.

  • This job requires extended work hours.

  • Physically fit (documented by a physician’s certificate recognizing job requirement).

  • This job is safety sensitive, and as such, is subject to the provisions of the Drug and Alcohol Policy (Pre-Employment or Pre-Placement for Safety Sensitive Positions).

$33.41 ($5,419.77) - $41.02 ($6,654.26)
