Job Summary: This position is located at the VAMC Tomah, WI in the Environmental Management Service. In addition to the performance of Journeyman level work in the incumbents' field of expertise; the incumbent instructs, distributes, balances and coordinates the housekeeping workload to the employees on a daily basis. Input is provided to the supervisor on scheduled project work.

Major Duties:

  • Major duties: Resolves simple informal complaints of employees and refers others to supervisor. Amends or rejects work not meeting established standards, refer to supervisor questions/matters not covered by standards and problems in meeting Performance Standards. Instructs employees in specific jobs/projects and makes available written instruction or other reference materials. Provides assistance to the supervisor in the effective and economical use of allocated resources, both human and material for the housekeeping employees. Comprehend verbal and written instructions received from the supervisor and to effectively transmit these instructions to team members in a clear concise manner to preclude any confusion regarding expectations. Trains and provides basic orientation to staff on housekeeping procedures and techniques, infection control, safety, chemical use, storage, and the use of appropriate cleaning equipment. Coordinates projects and other work activities based on the instructions received from the supervisor. Uses proper methods, procedures, equipment operation, infection control, safety, chemical use and storage of chemicals and/or equipment. Recognize mechanical and electrical malfunctions in power machinery, correct safety problems, and perform minor maintenance. Responsible for enforcement of applicable safety regulations and policies, safe work methods/practices and proper utilization of safety equipment. Maintain a safe and sanitary environment. Knowledgeable on the proper use of cleaning chemicals and personal protective equipment. Work and function in the Medical Center in a safe manner, including infection control and the correct operation of equipment. Performs other duties as assigned. Physical Requirements: Occasionally lifts heavy loads, be able to climb/descent ladders and scaffolds. Incumbent is subject to all hazards inherent in the physical plant and grounds environments, for example: burns, cuts, bruises, sprains, falls, high heat, high humidity, etc. Working Conditions: The employee's work area is primarily indoors, in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Exposure to vibration from equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in the performance of duties. Care is required to avoid serious injuries when working with chemicals and powered equipment.
