Job Summary: This position is located within Environmental Management Services (EMS) at the Coatesville VA Medical Center. The primary purpose of this position is to exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in supporting and performing tasks (e.g., environment of care, textile distribution and training) associated with EMS goals and objectives. Tours of duty may vary depending on the internal department needs with weekdays, weekends, day and evening shift schedules.

Major Duties:

  • Major duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Evaluates work for completeness, compliance with procedures and instructions, and sanitation quality standards. Coordinates work with supervisors of other services within the position's area of jurisdiction so as not to interrupt patient care or other activities. Ensures the efficient and economical accomplishment of work assignments of subordinates within established policies and schedules set by higher levels of supervision. Plans daily and weekly assignments, scheduling periodic work for areas of responsibility, taking into consideration the availability of personnel and equipment to meet established priorities. Provides special direction to new employees to prepare them for individual assignments, procedures and safety policies. Keeps subordinates abreast of proper methods, procedures and uses of equipment and supplies; control the use of supplies and equipment to affect cost control within the unit. Reviews procedures, methods and sequence of tasks performed by employees under their supervision. Performs follow up on all work assignments to ensure that established procedures, work assignments and safety standards are being properly applied and adjusted as necessary. Ensures subordinates are following safety and approved technical procedures in accordance with department procedure guides. Ensures the cleaning of interior surfaces, general sanitation, cleanliness and associated housekeeping responsibilities located within assigned areas. May be required to act in the absence of higher-level management within Environmental Management Services.
