About the role

Responsible for supporting Environmental and Waste Management operations by ensuring compliance with site procedures and regulatory requirements. Key duties include managing incoming solid waste, monitoring liquid waste transfers, and assisting with the operation, testing, and modification of equipment used for environmental protection, waste treatment, and site remediation. Applies foundational environmental engineering principles under the guidance of engineering staff or scientists and may contribute to the development or improvement of environmental remediation technologies.

Role Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance with Environmental and Waste Management procedure requirements.
  • Ensures compliance and collect required data of site requirements.
  • Ensure compliance and support with Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Program (SPCC).
  • Ensure compliance with waste management programs such as:
    • Hazardous waste
    • Non- Hazardous waste
    • General trash
    • Biohazard
    • Recycling
  • Performs physically demanding operations and waste management work
  • Transfer of liquid waste of drums
  • Receive and segregate all waste of different areas and ensure are in compliance with Regulatory Agencies
  • Operates hand truck, forklift, digger, pick-up truck for waste management department functions
  • Wash and rinse containers
  • Prepare labels and repackaging of waste if necessary.
  • Operates and services the components of liquid waste transfer and collection systems
  • Maintains and monitors control systems used for plant waste transfers processes
  • Coordinate with traffic department all shipments and movements of trailers
  • Escort suppliers to different pick-up areas including biological waste companies
  • Transfers of waste tanks to tank trailers – connecting sleeves and ground, turn up pump
  • Maintain tracking of biohazard, hazardous and non-hazardous manifest data and chain of custody to ensure compliance with local and federal agencies
  • Enters and maintains environmental data log on computer system and submits to technical staff for analysis or incorporates into technical reports
  • Prepare all the waste shipments data and documentation of different suppliers.
  • Conducts regular inspections to ensure the systems are operating at the desired level of quality:
    • Hazardous & Non-Hazardous Satellite Station
    • Hazardous & Non-Hazardous waste room
    • Tanks and dikes
  • Performs preventive maintenance tasks related to the dikes
  • Submit a work request for major repairs into the CMMS
  • Advises Supervisor / Manager of the nature of violations and other needed improvements
  • Maintains clean and good housekeeping practices in waste areas

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

  • Technical College Science Degree as a minimum
  • BS / BA in Sciences / Environmental or related field preferred
  • Five (5) to Ten (10) years of experience in an environmental position within the Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, Medical Device, Food and Beverage; and Healthcare Industries.

Preferred Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have prior experience in most, if not all, of the following and employees developing into this role should develop experience and demonstrated success in the following:

  • Good verbal and writing skills in English and Spanish.
  • Knowledge in EPA, DRNA, RCRA and OSHA regulation

Physical demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate equipment, tools, or controls.
  • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, or hear; sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and smell. The employee may lift and / or move up to 25-65 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee may frequently work inside weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts, exposed to wet and humid conditions, and an odorous atmosphere, may be exposed to fumes and the risk of electrical shock, and occasionally work on ladders in high places, in small spaces such as lift / metering stations, manholes, tanks and wet wells.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud.
