The Opportunity:

Join NAVSEA as the Lead Enterprise Architect for the Navy Maritime Maintenance Enterprise Solution (NMMES). In this role, you will design and evolve enterprise-scale cloud architectures that support mission-critical naval ship and submarine maintenance applications, system integrations, and data platforms. You will architect solutions serving 45,000+ users across Navy Shipyards and Intermediate Maintenance Facilities worldwide, lead the modernization of legacy hosting environments through cloud-native services and automation, and guide the long-term technical direction of the NMMES cloud ecosystem.

This position oversees the full enterprise architecture lifecycle—from strategy and design through implementation and continuous evolution—while applying SAFe Agile practices to improve architectural governance, delivery efficiency, and team collaboration.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership for the architecture, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and sustainment of enterprise systems and services in AWS-based hybrid environments

  • Architect, deploy, and operate AWS and AWS Outposts solutions supporting mission-critical workloads and enterprise modernization

  • Design and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform and automation scripting to enable repeatable, auditable, and scalable AWS infrastructure delivery

  • Lead decomposition of enterprise architectures into modular AWS services, reusable patterns, and platform components to support full lifecycle management

  • Establish and enforce AWS enterprise standards, including landing zones, VPC architectures, subnetting, routing, IAM, and security guardrails

  • Design secure AWS networking architectures, including VPC connectivity, segmentation, hybrid routing, and controlled access to on-premise legacy systems

  • Ensure secure integration between legacy DoD systems (including Oracle/Solaris platforms where applicable) and modern AWS-hosted applications

  • Develop and maintain AWS architecture documentation, design artifacts, and standards supporting governance, audits, and accreditation

  • Support RMF / ATO-aligned delivery by embedding logging, monitoring, and compliance controls into AWS environments

  • Collaborate with program leadership, security, and engineering teams to align AWS architecture solutions with mission and cost objectives

Qualifications:
Required:

  • US Citizen with an active Secret clearance

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 13+ years of progressive experience in enterprise IT architecture, cloud engineering, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering within DoD or Federal environments

  • Demonstrated experience architecting, deploying, and sustaining AWS-centric environments, including AWS Outposts

  • Strong hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and AWS automation using Python, PowerShell, or similar scripting languages

  • Extensive knowledge of enterprise architecture principles supporting large-scale, mission-critical AWS environments

  • Proven ability to lead technical efforts, define AWS standards, and influence architecture decisions across teams

  • Experience integrating legacy systems with modern AWS-hosted services across multiple operating systems

  • Experience supporting RMF, ATO, auditability, and compliance in AWS-based DoD environments

  • Current CompTIA Security+ certification

Desired:

  • AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, or equivalent)

  • Experience supporting Navy or naval maintenance systems or similarly complex DoD enterprise programs

  • Experience designing architectures spanning Windows, RHEL, NetScaler, and legacy UNIX platforms within AWS environments

  • Familiarity with SAFe Agile and enterprise-scale DevOps delivery

  • Knowledge of DoD and Navy standards related to AWS enterprise architecture and system interoperability

  • Familiarity with DoDAF in the context of cloud-based enterprise architectures
