Position Overview:
The Component Tester, Engines is responsible for efficiently and effectively testing and troubleshooting 3400, 3500 and C175 series Caterpillar engines within OEM specifications, standard hours and quality metrics. The Component Tester, Engines will also test and troubleshoot other engines as required.
Job Description:
- Installation of engines onto the dynamometer
- Perform more complex and specialized mechanical or electrical tests on the components
- Understand and communicate the final test data to the appropriate individuals
- Complete tests and either approve the component for shipping or reject the component and provide detailed feedback to the assembly area to the corrective action required
- Ability to perform engine post-dyno work when required
Qualifications:
- HET Journeyperson ticket, or interprovincial Red Seal, is required.
- A minimum of 6 months working Service Bay or EMP Level 3, and/or Assembly or Inspection Level 4.
- Preference given to those who fall within the value stream & qualify as defined in Schedule C.
- Multiple years’ experience in the heavy equipment engine field, working on preferably Caterpillar components (disassembly, subassembly, inspection, assembly, service bay, or test).
- Experience diagnosing / troubleshooting engine failures.
- Demonstrated understanding of engine systems and can apply that knowledge.
- Previous knowledge of operating similar dyno’s is preferred.
- Strong computer skills: Word, Excel, SIS, TMI, WOT and Cat ET.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to follow work instructions.
- Ability to work independently.
- Must be able to communicate written and spoken English effectively.
- Able to regularly lift and handle material weighing up to 40 pounds.
- A condition of employment is the ability to be fit tested and the ability to wear a respirator.
- Candidate must demonstrate the ability to work in a safe manner & comply in all aspects of the organizations policies and procedures.
Note:
- This posting is for a static afternoon shift scheduled Monday – Thursday; 10 hours per day
- Any future shift changes that may occur will be made in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Collective Agreement

- Hourly Rate: $53.05 - $56.23 / Hour
