Northrop Grumman Aerostructures Business Unit (ASBU) has an opening for a first shift Composite Machining Manufacturing Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The position will be located in Clearfield, UT at the Aeronautics Composite Center Elevated (ACCE) building.

This position will support the Airbus A350 value stream in the machining of carbon fiber stiffeners and frames.

The selected candidate will provide critical support in a high-volume high-mix production environment, working closely with Operations, Quality, Industrial Engineering, Scheduling and Maintenance. Our goal is to minimize downtime on the production line by troubleshooting, problem solving, and proactively identifying areas of concern. Our engineers work to continuously improve their processes, eliminating process variation and waste while building in quality.  Join us in the team effort to meet our production goals!

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate within a Cross-Functional Team (CFT) to develop and implement process improvements as well as support site initiatives
  • Work closely with manufacturing personnel in the highly automated production of composite aerospace components
  • Author, modify, and audit shop floor electronic work instructions (EWIs)
  • Perform root cause and corrective action (RCCA) activities to permanently eliminate defects
  • Troubleshoot production/equipment/program/tooling issues and implementing improvements and solutions

The ideal candidate is a self-starter and possesses both strong written and verbal communication skills. He/she should enjoy collaborating with others of varying backgrounds and roles, including but not limited to shop floor personnel, Manufacturing Engineers, Industrial Engineers, Maintenance, and Quality Engineers, in a fast-paced environment to solve time-sensitive problems. We are a tight-knit team, and we enjoy working together to reach our mutual goals.

This position will be a process owner and integral piece to our IPT for one or multiple of our manufacturing cells. This position supports a Monday – Friday 9/80 schedule.

This role can be filled at a Manufacturing Engineer Level 2 or Principal Manufacturing Engineer Level 3 depending on the qualifications below.

Basic Qualifications:

Manufacturing Engineer Level 2:

  • Bachelors Degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) and 1 years of work experience in a manufacturing environment OR Masters in STEM with 0 years of experience
  • Microsoft Office experience, specifically with Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and specifications
  • Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)

Principal Manufacturing Engineer Level 3:

  • Bachelors Degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) and 4 years of work experience in a manufacturing environment, or Masters Degree in a STEM field and 3 years of work experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically with Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and specifications
  • Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Manufacturing, Aerospace, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering
  • Experience with Siemens 840 controls
  • Knowledge of composite machining
  • Knowledge of water jet machining
  • Knowledge of CNC machining
  • Experience working with/programming Fanuc robots
  • Experience using Catia V5 or similar CAD/CAM software
  • Experience using Solumina G8 or similar
  • Demonstrated understanding of root cause / corrective action processes and techniques
  • Experience using RCCA tools such as Five Why, Pareto, fishbone, etc.
  • Experience drafting, maintaining, and modifying work instructions and/or process specifications

Primary Level Salary Range: $72,100.00 - $108,100.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $89,400.00 - $134,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
