Under the direction of the Engineering Lab Supervisor, the Sr. Engineering Lab Technician will collaborate with engineers, SME’s and cross-functional teams to drive project success. You will oversee lab operations, conduct advanced testing, perform data analysis and mentor junior staff to support engineering initiatives. The senior-level role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership and problem-solving skills to maintain high standards of safety, accuracy and innovation in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Specific duties include:
Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead the setup, execution and analysis of engineering tests, including prototyping, material evaluations, and performance assessments to validate designs and specifications
Exercise responsibility for thoroughness, timeliness and accuracy of work performed
Oversee daily lab operations, including equipment calibration, inventory management and 6s standards
Collect, document and analyze test data using tools like oscilloscopes, multimeters, and data acquisition systems, prepare detailed reports and communicate findings to engineering team
Diagnose and resolve issues with lab equipment and experimental setups
Mentor junior technicians and interns on best practices, safety procedures, and technical skills
Perform preventative equipment maintenance and repairs of lab equipment
Knowledge of machine component applications and assembly
Assemble/wire experimental bench top solutions based on minimal engineer input
Wire production electrical control panels based on wiring schematics
Participate in the improvement and development of testing and automated machinery
Agility to multi-task while maintaining efficiency and organization
Communicate effectively with engineers and technicians
Contribute to organizational goals and objectives
Other Requirements:
Ability to travel domestically and internationally for machine and/or concept evaluations. Estimated yearly travel, 5%. Most trips will be contained into 1 week with possibilities of weekend travel.
Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds repeatedly to a height of 3-4 feet with possibility to lift up to 35 pounds.
Ability to learn technical material.
Ability to be interactive “hands on” with each upcoming engineering project.
Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s or associate degree in a technical field (Electrical, Electronic, Automation, Mechanical) and 7-10 years’ experience or High School Diploma with extensive experience
Fundamentals of electronics, AC/DC circuits, motors, sensors, pneumatics and controllers
Fundamental mechanical abilities and hands on experience
Strong organizational, problem solving and troubleshooting skills
Able to use hand tools and power tools
Ability to solder and wire components
Knowledge of mechatronics incorporating mechanical, pneumatics, and electrical components
Bonus Skills
Familiarity with LabVIEW, PLCs, safety controllers, IO link
Basic skills in Electrical and/or Mechanical SolidWorks
Hands-on fabrication experience i.e. mill, lathe, welding, etc.
Experience with data collection systems and sensor integration
Familiarity with NFPA79 or EN 60204-1 wire standards a plus
Python programming
Robotic programming experience (Fanuc, Epson, ABB)
