THE OPPORTUNITY 

Silvus is seeking an Engineering Technician-Soldering Specialist who will report to the Team Lead of Electronics Design. This position collaborates closely with a multidisciplinary team of electrical and mechanical engineers to support the assembly of advanced wireless communication systems, providing expert technical assistance throughout the process.

This position is fully onsite, Monday through Friday, at Silvus Technologies’ HQ in the heart of vibrant West Los Angeles.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Printed circuit board SMD rework to support new product development.
  • Custom wiring harness creation and electro-mechanical prototype assembly.
  • Working with a cross-functional engineering team to assist with validation and testing.
  • Performing lab and field testing of electronic equipment and systems.
  • Responsible for other related duties as required by the engineering team.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Printed Circuit Board hand soldering with experience using lead-free solder.
  • Rework down to 0201 passives and 0.4mm pitch BGAs, perform trace cuts, and route fine gauge wire to support development.
  • Experience in a development lab setting.
  • Ability to manage priorities across several projects and operate with a high level of independence.
  • Proficiency in the use of electrical modification equipment (soldering station, heat-gun, and preheater).
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting PCB rework and mechanical assembly instructions, electrical schematics, assembly drawings, BOMs, and mechanical 2D drawings.
  • Ability to work under a microscope.
  • Knowledge of hand assembly tools and common screw types.
  • Possess an understanding of component sizes/packages and wire gauges.
  • Ensure a high level of quality in all phases of prototyping.
  • Usage of DMM’s, oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.
  • Certified with IPC-A-610 and/or J-STD-001 standards.
  • NOTE - Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen, or U.S. Permanent Resident) due to clients under U.S. federal contracts.
  • All employment is contingent upon the successful clearance of a background check and drug test.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of thermal interface materials, gaskets, thread locker, and conformal coating.
  • Experience conducting IP rating testing.
  • Experience with thermal testing in a temperature chamber.
  • Basic Radio Frequency knowledge is a plus.
  • Passion for working on electrical hardware.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Rare local travel, as required by Silvus.
  • Indoor air-conditioned facility.
  • Occasional exposure to heat, cold, and allergens while performing tests or demonstrations in the field.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to do the following:
  • Lift up to 25 lbs. of equipment for the setup of demonstrations and testing.
    • Walking/Moving in the labs.
    • Handling (grasping, holding).
    • Repetitive Hand Motion.
    • Fingering (fine dexterity).
