Northrop Grumman is currently seeking an Engineering Technician II to provide test engineering technical support for our large caliber ammunition (LCA) programs in our Socorro, NM offices. This position is focused on providing technical support in the manufacturing and testing of large caliber cartridges and ammunition propulsion systems and supports the ammunition business segment at Armament Systems Division.

This opportunity is a great fit for a self-motivated, proactive, hands-on individual who wants to assist in planning and running projects for the Northrop Grumman LCA. Our teams work in a high exposure, fast paced, and exciting environment that involves hands-on technical challenges, problem solving, and inter-department collaborations. The candidate will apply strong technical fundamentals, demonstrate clear communication with those they interact with, and must be able to support up to 10% of domestic travel.

Position Description

  • This position reports to the LCA engineering manager and is responsible for providing technical support for LCA programs, as well as other programs in Northrop Grumman’s ammunition program teams.
  • Contribute to completion of specific program and project milestones.
  • Support test range maintenance and capability assessment.
  • Set up test apparatus and conducts tests of production assemblies and units following methods, procedures, standards, and sequences.
  • Adjust and calibrate systems as needed. Modify equipment by adding, removing, or altering components as defined by predetermined diagrams and sketches.
  • Correct malfunctions by adjusting or replacing parts or components as directed.
  • Support failure investigations, root cause determination, and corrective action implementation.
  • Communicating issues and status frequently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Represent Northrop Grumman to our customers and suppliers.
  • Travel (approximately 10%) domestic to customers and suppliers representing Northrop Grumman’s program and business interests.
  • Conceptualize and implement continuous improvement projects internally and with suppliers.

Basic Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent education completion
  • 2+ years of experience in industry-related experience
  • Experience reading technical drawings, part lists, and component data sheets.
  • Proven collaboration skills and ability to partner with cross disciplines within a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple and concurrent tasks while maintaining a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds to Load, Assemble, Pack (LAP) cartridges.
  • As a responsible party to Alcohol Tobacco and Firearm (ATF), obtain coverage under Safe Explosive Act as employee possessor/responsible person upon starting.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Must be U.S. Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in the defense industry and/or with U.S. Government contracts.
  • Engineering experience in both product development and supporting a development environment.
  • Experience working with customer engineering, vendors and subcontractors.
  • Knowledge or experience with explosives or energetic assembly and test.
  • Knowledge of 120mm gun systems; maintenance and operation.

Primary Level Salary Range: $45,800.00 - $76,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
