Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking an Engineering Manager Level 2, supporting the Marine Systems Business Unit, reporting to an Engineering Execution Senior Manager. The positions will be located in Annapolis, MD. This team is responsible for engineering and support of production for the ultimate end use in submarines and the surface Navy. As an Engineering Manager, this position will be responsible for leading a distributed geographical, highly dynamic, multi-discipline engineering team.

In this role, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Provide project and technical oversight of design activities performed by the group.

  • Manage the technical team during the design, manufacturing, assembly and testing of Naval products.

  • Prepare cost estimates, provide proposal inputs, and review proposal content for both internal and external customers.

  • Increasing engineering competencies through employee development and strategic hiring.

  • Balancing employee needs with business goals.

  • Provide ownership of and direction to the processes used in the group.

  • Basic understanding of the Systems, Design, Manufacturing, Test Integration and Project Management (EVM).

  • Support department initiatives, forecasting and recruiting, technology roadmap creation, succession planning and champion continuous process improvements.

  • Collaborate regularly with Program Office, Operations, Business Management, and other entities within the Business Unit to ensure business and production goals are met.

Candidates must have exceptional leadership and teambuilding skills, strategic thinking, strong technical acumen, and the ability to lead multiple engineering disciplines across programs. The candidate will work with cross-discipline team members and therefore must have excellent communication skills, presentation experience and the ability to work seamlessly with a diverse community of engineers and managers to achieve the goals of the organization. The candidate must have the ability to build consensus and resolve conflict. The candidate must collaborate with business area leadership, and other functional partners to resolve complex issues in a timely manner to help meet program commitments.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with 8 years of engineering experience; OR a Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with 6 years of engineering experience; OR a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with 3 years of engineering experience.

  • U.S Citizenship required.

  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.

  • Experience and proven track record of technical leadership leading cross functional teams.

  • Experience and proven track record of leadership and issue resolution during production.

  • Engineering background with demonstrated experience through design and production.

  • Understanding of engineering process with execution experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or related technical fields.

  • Experience as a Technical Lead, Project Manager, or other demonstrated leadership role related to program execution.

  • Experience and proven track record of functional/people management and success as a leader of large functional organizations.

  • Experience managing large control accounts with accountability for scope, schedule, budget, and technical performance.

  • Understanding of ship building and propulsion principals of operation and design.

  • Experience working within the Defense Industry.  Experience working with Naval products is a plus.

Primary Level Salary Range: $139,800.00 - $209,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
