What You Will Contribute:

The Engineering Manager WQ supervises a cross functional team of employees to achieve company goals as defined by the senior manager of the group.  The Engineering Manager is a true management role, where the manager’s key performance is measured by the ability to create and executes plans, delegate, empower, influence, and track the technical staff’s ability to achieve their scheduled goals.  The manager is responsible for defining implementation plans for the required strategy within schedule and budget constraints, and facilitates solutions across functions to optimize the effectiveness of the team.  This role may supervise other managers or supervisors. Reports to a Senior Manager, Director, or Vice President.

Job Duties:

  • Provide leadership and direction for the managed technology group, by inspiring and motivating team members to achieve their best work in a positive work environment built on trust, feedback, collaboration and mutual respect.

  • Oversee the performance and development of individuals and teams, including hiring, budgeting, resourcing, structural planning and performance SMART goal management

  • Collaborates with senior leadership and other departments to define new products, goals, objectives, and strategies. Ensures activities are aligned with individual SMART goal targets.

  • Drives effective execution of the defined product roadmap and project schedules, and ensures everyone is informed, engaged, and aligned to plan with a sense of urgency.

  • Defines and tracks needed key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics, using data-driven insights to measure performance and drive improvements.

  • Facilitates solutions to technical challenges and issues that arise during project execution, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement.

  • Manages Engineering process systems, as needed for ECNs/ERs, RMA, ERP, Salesforce, regulatory approvals requirements, ISO requirements, etc. and support for Service, Sales, etc.

  • Supports the professional growth and development of team members, identifying opportunities for skill development, career advancement, and leadership training. Assesses and manages engineering skill sets across team to align with development road map requirements and corporate growth strategies.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree or completion of technical university education (TU, FH) in electrical engineering, electronics, physics or related fields.

  • 7+ years of experience in managing developers and a very good network of colleagues, companies and universities.

Qualifications:

  • Very good knowledge of English.

  • Experience in effectively leading a technical team staff at a supervisory level, demonstrating solid decision making skills, leading to successful project time and budget completion. Highly proficient in checking validity of technical solutions and ensuring accuracy of solutions – focusing on empowerment and avoiding micromanagement.

  • Highly proficient with principals of Engineering in a specific technical skill area, as well as a solid understanding of Engineering principals outside their primary discipline. Understands conventional engineering documentation control systems for design and documentation at the corporate level such as source revision control, ER/ECN, ERP, RMA, etc. Highly proficient with principals of Engineering and detailed design in a specific skill area, as well as a solid understanding of Engineering principals outside their primary discipline.

  • Strong product knowledge of one or many product groups or technologies. Strong procedural and process knowledge within the organization. Able to identify, and convey, new trends, tools, best practices, and technologies continuously that could further advance the technical competency of the department.

  • Experience in training and coaching staff members, as required, to be more efficient in their specific areas. Ability to empower and inspire excellence in others, and commit to not only successful project completions but also to developing staff along their desired career paths.

  • Demonstrated emotional intelligence in conflict resolution for team, and strong consensus building strategies.

  • Demonstrated strength in inter-group collaboration skills, working with internal and external customers to rapidly create solutions and solve problems. Experience in working external groups and other functional leaders to support the team, including corporate groups external to Engineering (like Sales) or external to company (like regulatory.)

  • Strong organizational and project management skills, and ability to track and execute plans through delegation and empowerment, and frequently report up on status and budget. Experience in communicating status through scheduling and tracking team progress. Understands risk, and implications to project planning.

  • Strong financial acumen in support of project proposals, expenses, and top-level financial drivers of the Organization. Experience with basic product costing limits, such as margins and list price, as part of specification, and the importance to the organization.
