Position Summary

The Engineer, Workshop is responsible for supporting the overhaul, repair, troubleshooting, and servicing of mtu engine components and associated power systems within the workshop environment.

This role is directly connected to shopfloor production and plays a critical role in sustaining workshop throughput, turnaround time (TAT), and delivery commitments across the APAC region. The successful candidate will support the overhaul and restoration of critical engine components including cylinder heads, water pumps, and turbochargers for both classic and modern engine platforms.

Operating in a production-driven environment, this role requires strong technical fundamentals, hands-on mechanical competency, attention to detail, and the ability to execute work safely and efficiently in accordance with OEM standards.


What you will be doing:

  • Perform disassembly, inspection, repair, overhaul, and reassembly of engine components including:
    • Cylinder heads
    • Water pumps
    • Turbochargers
  • Carry out maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities for mtu engines and associated systems within the workshop environment.
  • Support installation, commissioning, and servicing activities when required at customer sites.
  • Execute assigned tasks independently in accordance with OEM manuals, technical documentation, and engineering instructions.
  • Support troubleshooting activities during engine bench testing and component testing.
  • Diagnose faults across diesel engine systems including fuel pumps, injectors, governors, and auxiliary mechanical systems.
  • Ensure all overhaul and repair work meet quality standards and turnaround time (TAT) targets.
  • Prepare accurate service reports, technical findings, and investigation reports upon completion of work.
  • Work closely with supervisors and technical specialists on complex troubleshooting and technical clarifications.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity, workshop efficiency, quality, and workplace safety.
  • Contribute to departmental KPIs related to production throughput, quality, efficiency, and safety performance.
  • Maintain full compliance with Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) regulations and internal safety requirements during all work activities.
  • Travel regionally for short-term or long-term assignments when operationally required.

Position requirements:

  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 2–5 years of hands-on experience in:
    • Diesel engines
    • Power generation systems
    • Marine engines
    • Heavy equipment or industrial engines
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in engine component overhaul and repair.
  • Knowledge of diesel fuel systems including:
    • Fuel pumps
    • Injectors
    • Governors
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and OEM manuals.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting capability with a structured and analytical approach.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, production-oriented workshop environment.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to travel regionally when required.

Preferred qualifications

  • Prior experience working with mtu engines or Rolls-Royce Power Systems products.
  • Exposure to workshop operations supporting marine, industrial, or power generation applications.
  • Experience in component overhaul environments with focus on precision and quality standards.
  • Familiarity with engine testing or bench-testing activities.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement or lean workshop practices is advantageous.
