Clarios

Engineer Intern

Mexico, Nuevo Leon, Escobedo Full time

The Role

As an intern supporting automation at the Escobedo plant, you will help develop, standardize, and maintain technical documentation and operational procedures for automatic equipment and robots. Your work will ensure safe installation, reliable operation, and effective maintenance across the production line—directly improving uptime, quality, and operator experience.

What You’ll Do (Impact Areas)

  • Develop and standardize technical documentation and operational procedures related to the installation, operation, maintenance, and safety of robots and automatic equipment.
  • Document the operating principles and workflows of the group-feeding robots (1).
  • Register the installation and configuration of the new sealers and APB systems, including parameters, versions, and change logs (2).
  • Create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for each stage of the process (startup, normal operation, changeover, safety interlocks, troubleshooting, shutdown) (3).
  • Build visual/digital manuals for operators, technicians, and supervisors (quick guides, checklists, LOTO references, visual standards, escalation flows) (4).
  • Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and production to capture best practices and ensure document control (versioning, approvals, accessibility).
  • Support training deployment using the newly created materials; gather feedback and iterate.

What Success Looks Like

  • Complete and approved documentation sets for at least two equipment families (e.g., group-feeding robots and sealers/APB), including SOPs, safety references, and maintenance guides.
  • Visual/digital manuals published and accessible on the plant’s standard platforms (e.g., SharePoint, CMMS, or operator stations).
  • Reduction in operating errors and faster changeovers, evidenced by feedback from operators and supervisors.
  • Consistent compliance with safety practices (e.g., interlocks, LOTO references) embedded in procedures.
  • Sustained adoption through training sessions and adherence audits.

Core Competencies

  • Clear communication and cross-functional collaboration (maintenance, production, engineering).
  • Attention to detail and an organizational mindset for document control and versioning.
  • Process thinking and ability to translate technical information into operator-friendly content.
  • Initiative to explore equipment behavior and empathy for end users (operators/techs).
  • Safety-first mindset in all procedures and manuals.

What You Bring (Qualifications)

Applicable Backgrounds (students):

  • Industrial, Mechatronic, Mechanical, Electrical, or Administration (with strong process/documentation focus).

Preferred Skills:

  • General engineering knowledge (mechanical/electrical basics, automation concepts, sensors/actuators, HMIs).
  • Ability to manage documentation (SOPs, manuals, change logs) and use digital tools (Office, SharePoint/Confluence, CMMS).
  • Comfortable observing equipment, interviewing subject-matter experts, and structuring procedures.
  • Proactive attitude and willingness to learn on the shop floor.

Our Commitment to You

You’ll contribute to a high-impact initiative that strengthens reliability, safety, and operator experience on automated lines. This internship offers hands-on exposure to automation systems, document control, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration—with a direct, measurable impact on operations at Escobedo.
