The Steam Turbine team and TGS are committed to relentlessly and purposefully leveraging people, information, technology and analytical techniques to identify, address and prevent any issue that could contribute to a major centerline event. Steam Turbine Engineering is charged with accurately scoping outages and responding to emergent plant needs regarding their Steam Turbines, Steam Turbine Valves, or supporting system. We provide these stations with recommendations based on our expertise and historical data.
The Steam Turbine Engineer is responsible for being the technical conscience of the fleet through the application of mechanical engineering principles and leveraging analytics to create data driven solutions.
The Engineer II position is the intermediate level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer II position solve complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with general supervision. An Engineer II is expected to develop advanced skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer II effectively applies fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is fairly complex and varied.
This position is eligible for Exempt Supplemental Compensation for applicable project support, and it will be applied in accordance with Duke Energy Compensation Policies.
Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
2 years related work experience.
Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.
Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam.
Understanding of basic principles of project management.
Experience in the utility industry.
Department specific experience applicable to the hiring department.
Field Mobility Classification – Work will be performed in various field locations, as needed, after the onboarding period. However, field employees are required to live within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned work location.
Perform work in a power plant or office environment.
Occasional overtime including nights, weekends and holidays if required.
Exposure to mechanical, electrical, noise or other industrial hazards, and utilize appropriate protective equipment as needed.
Specific Requirements
Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience
A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.
