ENGINEER II – MECHANICAL

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE ENGINEER II – MECHANICAL

  • Provides input into the purchase, modification, and improvement of varied equipment.
  • Represents specific discipline (i.e. Mechanical) on cross functional project teams by writing PO's or non-stocks and responsible for managing cost, schedule, and performance for the discipline-specific project subset.
  • Completes standard engineering & design work related to the installation and retrofit of equipment.
  • Provides day-to-day equipment troubleshooting support to Maintenance.
  • Specializes in one of the Mechanical discipline.
  • Performs all other duties and special projects as assigned.

REQUIRED FOR THE ENGINEER II – MECHANICAL

  • Four-year college degree or demonstrated equivalent experience as determined by the department management
  • Three or more years of relevant experience required or equivalent as determined by the department management
  • Business/Functional Expertise:
    • Understands the key business drivers; uses this knowledge in own work.
    • Expands fundamental knowledge in own function and broadens skills.
    • Understands other engineering discipline requirements and constraints.
  • Project Management:
    • Accountable for technical contribution to a project team or sub-team.
    • Works with others to achieve team goals through expanded knowledge and skills within own function.
    • May be accountable for subsets for project deliverables.
    • Uses/applies Carpenter project management tools and methodology in completing deliverables.
    • Manages smaller scale projects utilizing (less than 100k) with assistance.
    • Cadence project management philosophy and engineer project standards.
    • Good organizational skills
  • Financial Management:
    • Aware of costs and assists in controlling costs related to own work.
    • Develops cost estimates/cash flows
    • Apply engineering calculations, familiar with FEA model analysis and applies correctly
  • Mechanical:
    • Working knowledge of the latest governing codes (i.e. NFPA, ASME, SAE, AIST, JIC, etc.)
    • Experiences in applying sound engineering and design principles in development of manufacturing processes, process equipment and fabrications.
    • Working knowledge of water recirculation cooling systems, compressed air and pneumatic systems, vacuum systems, hydraulic systems (pumps, valves, and control), and natural gas combustion systems
    • Experiences in dealing with fabrication shops and equipment vendors
    • Experiences with participating in the development of RFP's and RFQ's for the purchasing of equipment and services
    • Experiences with field installation coordination and direction; and safe installation standards
    • Experiences with equipment and process related ergonomic and safety designs and considerations. FMEA, PHA
    • Experience in working closely with and in support of plant production and maintenance personnel.
    • Working understanding of 2D & 3D CAD, Word and Excel, REVIT
  • Problem Solving: Solves a range of problems in straightforward situations; analyzes possible solutions and assesses each using standard procedures; sound engineering and appropriate inputs
  • Decision Making: Works with moderate guidance in own area of knowledge.

    • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
    • Ability to perform independent work on larger assignments requiring experience and independent judgment and under supervision of higher-level engineer, supervisor, or manager.
