Summary of Role
The New Graduate College candidate will join the GlobalFoundries Technology and Innovation organization to support GaN integration for Power and GaN Power Systems. The candidate will have a 3 years local contract assignment at GF Labs at IMEC in Leuven, Belgium with a path to Burlington, VT (USA). During the 3 years assignment in Leuven the candidate is expected to support GlobalFoundries technology development focus within the IMEC Industrial Affiliation Programs in GaN Power, including hands-on experiments and integration, also understanding system architectures that require advanced power solutions. Additionally, the person will organize and lead joint-development projects at IMEC for learning and tech. transfer to respective GlobalFoundries R&D teams. Post doc candidates are welcome to apply.
Essential Responsibilities
Learn and transfer GaN epi and integration steps for Power (Strain Relief Buffer layer, back-side barrier, selective S/D regrowth) from IMEC Program to internal GF R&D
Partner with IMEC’s GaN ecosystem to explore new materials (e.g. slurries for CMP, cleaning, passivation etc) and new integration schemes e.g. co-integration.
Own and drive joint-development projects between GlobalFoundries and IMEC
Build and maintain relationships with semiconductor GaN material and tooling vendors
Contribute to Intellectual Property by writing innovative invention disclosures
Contribute to publications and conferences with scientific results
Understand application domains for GaN in the fields of Power Electronics at 1200V, 650V, 100V and lower voltages, and high frequency millimeter wave and RF applications.
Influence IMEC Program and collect feedback from GF on technical content and development plans. Participate in IMEC Partner Technical Week 2x year and support all executive readouts
Travel expectation is about 1-2x year to GlobalFoundries R&D team

Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs
Other duties as assigned by manager
Expectation of writing reports and preparing presentations
Required Qualifications
Education: PhD in physics, electrical engineering, microelectronics or related field.
Experience: Preferred minimum 1 year of study in the GaN field
Skills: fundamental knowledge about semiconductor power and high electron mobility devices
Travel: up to 10%
Fluency in English Language: written & verbal

Skills: expertise in industrial integration of GaN device, process development and device testing
