[What the role is]
The Sustainability Division (SD) plans, strategises and develops initiatives to drive resource conservation and environmental sustainability across the public, private and people sectors. It develops and promotes programmes, coordinates and administers incentive schemes, and builds capability to support this drive. It also coordinates efforts within NEA for the organisation and its staff to play its own part in the nationwide effort. Working in the Sustainability Division, you will be responsible for developing and planning policies and initiatives related to sustainable waste-to-resource management and contribute towards Singapore’s vision of becoming a Zero Waste Nation enabled by a circular economy approach.[What you will be working on]
Specifically, you will be part of a dynamic team under the Department of Sustainable Packaging Policy and Household Programme, working in a fast-paced environment that will be involved in the planning, development and implementation of strategies and initiatives relating to recycling and packaging waste management. Detailed work scope includes the following:
Analyse global and local sustainable waste-to-resource management practices and review existing gaps across the waste and recyclables ecosystem
Review and strengthen efforts to promote upstream waste reduction and reuse, forging new strategic partnerships with stakeholders, and develop metrics and methodologies to quantify and track waste reduction and reuse
Evaluate policy tools and develop strategies, frameworks and implementation plans for 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), disposables, and packaging waste management
To identify and analyse possible gaps in the existing waste data monitoring and management system, and develop solutions to close the gaps and enable better data analysis and policy making
Review domestic household recycling ecosystem and explore possible enhancement measures to reduce contamination rate of recyclables
Keep abreast of global trends and technologies on 3Rs, disposables, and packaging waste management, and develop robust internal knowledge and thought leadership in the field
Facilitate and organise stakeholder discussions, engagements, and consultations as part of developing 3Rs, disposables, and packaging waste management strategies and initiatives, including reviewing stakeholder feedback and proposals
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including other Government agencies, private sector companies, and industry associations to implement the developed strategies and initiatives
[What we are looking for]
Degree in Chemical/Environmental/Industrial & Systems/Materials/Mechanical Engineering
Passion for sustainability and environmental protection
Preferably 2 years of working experience in sustainability, environmental and waste management fields, and/or policy/regulatory roles.
Good quantitative skills and proficiency in data analysis and projections
Good organisational and project management skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, and adept at working with industry and public stakeholders
Dynamic and pleasant personality; with excellent inter-personal communications skills to engage diverse stakeholders
Good team player. Resourceful, resilient, highly self-motivated, and adaptable
Meticulous with an eye for detail, strong writing and analytical skills
