Major Duties:

  • You will serve as an Engineer on the Electrical Engineering (EE) team for the Battle Management System (BMS) family of projects in the Weapon Control Hardware Branch (Code H42) of the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division.
  • You will apply robust Electrical Engineering processes, working closely with the dynamic engineering team already established in Code H42.
  • You will design custom printed circuit boards using ARM based microcontrollers.
  • You will complete full schematic capture and PCB layout design.
  • You will design harnesses and cabling between the circuit cards and external interfaces.
  • You will assist with troubleshooting and initial circuit-board start-up of new designs.
  • You will collaborate with the Mechanical Engineering, Embedded Software, and Quality Assurance teams.
  • You will create engineering documentation for Technical Design Packages to include fabrication and assembly instructions.
  • You will assess operational performance criteria and provide input for improving performance.
  • You will develop status reports, progress and performance results both orally and in writing.
  • You will actively participate and contribute to the Electrical Engineering Team and Hardware Team meetings.

Qualifications: This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled by a General Engineer (0801-series), an Electrical Engineer (0850-series), a Computer Engineer (0854-series), or an Electronics Engineer (0855-series). Applicants in positions with occupational series other than those listed (0801, 0850, 0854 and 0855) may apply; however, you must apply directly to the series listed in this vacancy that is most applicable to your qualifications. Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-3 pay band (GS-9 through GS-11 equivalency) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: As a professional engineer with experience in circuit board design and development. Examples of qualifying experience may include (1) proficiency in designing electrical schematics and layouts of a printed circuit board; (2) experience using software tools to simulate electrical circuits.
