Akaysha energy

Energy Markets Compliance Specialist

Cremorne, Victoria, Australia; Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Full Time

The world is making the shift to cleaner energy, slowly. The planet is changing, fast.

That’s why Akaysha builds, owns, and operates the most powerful mega-scale battery storage solutions of today, and it’s why we’ll continue to build more. But what we are really building is a better future for everyone we share the planet with.

With a 30GWh+ portfolio spanning APAC, the Americas, and the EU and a global team of over 200, should we slow down, or should the world catch up?

As Senior Energy Markets Compliance Specialist, you’ll join the team supporting Akaysha’s operations as a global corporation across every phase of the asset lifecycle. Recently, the Legal, Risk & Compliance Pillar has delivered significant outcomes across regulatory tenders, financing facilities, and large-scale asset construction.

Building on this momentum, the Senior Energy Markets Compliance Specialist develops and maintains compliance frameworks for BESS projects in Australia and globally, ensuring adherence to energy laws such as the National Electricity Law and National Electricity Rules. The role supports the business by embedding effective compliance systems, controls, and continuous improvement across all functions and projects in Australia and all other jurisdictions where Akaysha operates.

Partnering with the Principal Compliance Counsel, and the Senior Compliance Specialist your experience will be critical in strengthening Akaysha’s compliance posture and program as you:

  • Ensure operational compliance for energy regulations and BESS projects by building and maintaining frameworks, registers, policies, and systems to support global regulatory adherence with the Principal Compliance Counsel.
  • Identify, interpret, and allocate regulatory obligations across the business, translating complex requirements into practical actions, and supporting stakeholders in managing compliance.
  • Assess compliance risks, evaluate and enhance controls, and implement scalable processes for continuous improvement across corporate and project activities.
  • Manage compliance systems by documenting obligations, maintaining incident logs, supporting investigations, report preparation, and updating frameworks in response to regulatory changes.
  • Lead compliance reviews, audits, assurance activities, and stakeholder engagement; providing risk-based advice, targeted training, and support for regulatory and external assurance processes.

Making an impact in this role will rely on experience across the following areas:

  • Strong knowledge of Australian energy regulatory frameworks, including the National Electricity Law and National Electricity Rules, with the ability to interpret and apply requirements in an operational BESS.
  • Development and implementation of compliance framework design that enhances policies and procedures across global operations.
  • Identification of compliance risks, evaluating controls, and applying effective mitigation strategies to enhance governance and resilience.
  • Effective collaboration across diverse teams, conveying regulatory requirements clearly and offering actionable compliance advice.
  • Proven analytical skills in managing compliance systems, generating precise reports, maintaining breach logs, and ensuring data integrity within compliance platforms.
  • Infrastructure, energy, or other capital-intensive projects with regulatory exposure.

We’re committed to staying ahead of the curve and consider our people to be Akaysha’s greatest asset.
