EMH (Electromagnetic Hazards) Specialist Systems Engineer (d/f/m)

As a Systems Engineer & Specialist in the field of EMH within the Aircraft Systems Engineering domain (1YD) at Airbus Commercial, you will directly influence the definition of aircraft system designs. With the increasing electrification of aircraft components—ranging from advanced connectivity systems in the cabin to new propulsion technologies—focusing on Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Electromagnetic Hazards (EMH) is becoming more critical than ever.

You will be involved in all development phases: from early concept and design through to certification of our product lines  and in-service support of the flying fleet. This role offers the opportunity to work within a highly recognized and multi cultural specialist team in the  environmental qualification and system standard parts department.

Your mission is to ensure platform protection against Lightning Induced Effects (LIE), High-Intensity Radiated Fields (HIRF), and Electromagnetic Environmental Effects.

You will be working at the largest production site for civil aircraft situated in Hamburg. Its location on the southern banks of the river Elbe includes the option to commute by ferry. Your tasks and responsibilities

Your Key responsibilities include:

  • Defining and implementing EMH requirements for new and modified systems, including identifying applicable certification requirements.

  • Analyzing aircraft system architectures regarding EMH protection and managing activities within the certification process.

  • Defining the work scope for EMH activities, assigning tasks to internal and external partners, and steering engineering workflows.

  • Interfacing with all Airbus Engineering departments and divisions (including strong collaboration with Airbus Defence and Space) to ensure the design of safe, mature, and robust systems across all ATA chapters and programs.

Your responsibilities are the following:

  • You will define and continuously improve the electromagnetic requirements applicable for the qualification of the systems and you will be as well the reference specialist to cooperate with the system design teams.

  • You will validate the compliance of designs against requirements in accordance to the airworthiness regulations

  • You will lead advanced studies to answer programme requests and needs or to solve in-service problems on the flying fleet.

  • You will create laboratory, ground and flight tests requests and will be responsible for the flight tests analysis and conclusions.

  • You will lead certification processes, create certification plans and certification summaries together with the authorities and answer certification review items with dedicated reports and summaries (CRI)

Desired skills and qualifications

  • Education: Master Degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a similar field.

  • Technical Skills: A strong understanding of electrical and physical principles; analytical capability and a curiosity for electrical engineering.

  • Soft Skills: Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify complex topics; a team-oriented mindset that embraces transnational exchange.

  • Experience: A solid understanding of the Aircraft Certification Process and more than 5 years of experience

  • Languages: Negotiation-level English and German. French would be a plus.

This position will require a security clearance or will require being eligible for clearance by the recognized authorities.
