Job Summary: This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Office of the Chief Operating Officer, Superintendent, House Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent, Facilities Operations Division, Elevator Branch.

Major Duties:

  • Tour of duty for this position is: Monday – Friday 5:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. The incumbent is an Elevator Mechanic (Electronics) and performs a variety of electronic functions in connection with the inspection, maintenance and repair of elevators, lifts, escalators and various industrial equipment in the House Office Buildings. The duties listed are at the WG-12 level. Duties include, but are not limited to: Interpret, diagnose, and respond to the full spectrum of elevator operational problems, e.g., power buildup problems in multi-voltage generator systems, changes in platform leveling, high maximum elevator speeds, or sudden stops or changes in elevator speed. Read and respond to mechanical information from engineering and inspection reports including technical directions of engineering, event readings or recordings, and oscilloscope waveforms. Interpret electronic diagrams and specifications of complete elevator bank systems. Evaluate, adjust, and repair new systems and invent processes to handle unexpected defects. Develop alterations to detailed schematics and maintenance procedures. Troubleshoot contemporary electronic control systems, requiring substantially greater skill, knowledge and responsibility to troubleshoot and adjust integrated systems and circuitry involving motion control, security lockouts, fire protection, telecommunications, and CCTV, using keyboard computerized data navigation and non-proprietary and proprietary diagnostic tools. Perform electronic preventive maintenance, testing and adjusting complex integrated electronic controls. Performs other related duties as assigned.

You must meet the following SCREEN-OUT(S) required for this position: WG-5/8: Ability to perform the work of an elevator mechanic (electronics) worker without more than normal supervision. WG-10/11: Ability to perform the work of an elevator mechanic (electronics) without more than normal supervision which includes working independently, showing job responsibility and exercising initiative. WG-12: Knowledge of the mechanical, electro-mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic philosophies related to the work performed.
