Job Summary: This Position is located in the Washington Headquarters Services (WHS), Facilities Services Directorate (FSD), Facilities Operations and Services Division (FOSD). The incumbent serves as an Electronics Mechanic (Fire Alarm). The work centers around maintenance, repair, and modification of a central fire alarm system comprised of various types of signaling equipment. Work is performed in accordance with all applicable codes, schematics, and instructions from supervisors.
Major Duties:
Qualifications: In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below. The Federal Wage System Job Grading Standard for Electronics Mechanic, 2604, outlines the individual occupational requirements for this series. These requirements include knowledge of electronic principles, the ability to recognize improper operation, locate the cause, and determine the best method to correct the defect. The skill to disassemble, assemble, and adjust electronic equipment is also required. The work may involve using both manual and automated test equipment,and may require the use of a personal computer and software packages to program or realign components or systems, download information, and detect equipment deficiencies. You may qualify at the WG-11 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: I have experience that demonstrates my ability to perform with little to no supervision complex maintenance and troubleshooting tasks, repair, and modification of a central fire alarm system comprised of various types of signaling equipment. Solid understanding of electronic equipment operation, capabilities, and limitations, but with less emphasis on advanced or complex systems. Experience with Fire Alarm Systems, with some exposure to SIMPLEX GRINNELL Systems preferred. Competent in reading blueprints, diagrams, and specifications, with less focus on adapting to systems with frequent engineering changes. Adept in using personal computers for basic diagnostics and system analysis but without the need for in-depth technical assistance or instruction. You may qualify at the WG-12 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: I have experience that demonstrates my ability to perform complex maintenance and troubleshooting tasks, repair, and modification of a central fire alarm system comprised of various types of signaling equipment. Experience with SIMPLEX GRINNELL Fire Alarm Systems. Expert knowledge of electronic equipment operation, capabilities, and limitations. Skill and ability to adapt to new or complex systems with frequent engineering changes. Expert in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, specifications, and operational manuals. The incumbent must read and understand specifications, drawings, schematics, block diagram, logic diagrams, flow charts, and manufacture's technical publication software. This includes the ability to recognize the functions and interconnections of various systems, components, assembles, sub- assemblies, cabling, and trace power and signal paths, and diagnose problems from drawings and computer printouts. Proficient in using personal computers for diagnostics and analysis. Expert to provide technical assistance and instruction to subordinates. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
