Job Summary: The position is located at the Oklahoma City Veterans Affairs Healthcare System (OKCVAHCS) in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and is assigned to the Facilities Management Service (FMS). The Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic receives general work related instructions or assignments. This position primarily conducts duties at the OKCVAHCS, but at times may be required to travel to the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) in the catchment area.

Major Duties:

  • Major Duties of this position include but are not limited to: Mastery of direct digital control (DDC) systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and building automation systems Performs preventative maintenance inspections and tasks on electronic Fire systems and related components to determine wear, reliability and load capabilities. Must performance metrics: system uptime, commissioning quality, efficiency improvements, and minimized service tickets. Plans layout and installation of Fire controls wiring, equipment, and/or fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes. Assembles, installs, tests, or maintains electronic wiring, equipment,, apparatus, or fixtures, using proper tools. Uses proper techniques and knowledge of Fire electronics Ability to make data-driven decisions, through troubleshooting. Preventative and corrective maintenance to ensure system reliability and efficiency. Ability to make efficient repairs to cut energy waste and operating costs. Tests Fire systems or equipment, or fixtures, using testing devices, such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system. Ability to maintain all electronic tools and power tools Repairs or replaces wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using hand tools or power tools. Inspects Fire systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes. Troubleshoots circuits, controls and systems to locate, repair and replace defective components. Diagnoses malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. Must be able to read schematics and wiring diagrams Must have knowledge of AC circuit analysis for Fire equipment Analyze circuits, diagnose faults, and implement repairs effectively Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Position Description Title/PD#: Electronic Industrial Control Mechanic - FIRE SYSTEMS/PD14762A Physical Requirements: Incumbents must be able to perform moderate to heavy physical effort over a minimum eight-hour period (which may run longer if overtime or off-hours work is required due to medical center needs), including lifting, crawling, climbing, bending, etc. When working on platforms, scaffolding and ladders, workers must climb equipment carrying and lifting tools and materials. Physical or muscular effort in performing duties includes but is not limited to fatigue producing action such as working overhead, lifting, pushing, pulling, crawling, climbing, stooping, stretching, standing, sitting, bending, kneeling, squatting, and other potentially uncomfortable positions to accomplish the assigned task. Strenuous physical effort is required while dismantling and reassembling equipment. The incumbent frequently carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds. The incumbent shall seek assistance with heavier items. The incumbent must work from ladders, scaffolding, etc., where parts of systems worked are frequently in hard-to-reach places. Hand dexterity is a critical requirement in completing most tasks. Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside. Work inside is typically performed in well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. There is exposure to chemicals and the potential inhalation of harmful fumes from chemicals in oils, gases, refrigerants, etc. Irritation of eyes, skin, and respiratory tract may result from equipment maintenance and/or repairs. Ladder climbing and working in high places is routine. Incumbent must always be very safety conscious. While outside, Incumbent will be exposed to a variety of weather conditions, both cold and hot, windy, wet, etc. in which work shall have to be completed since the demands of the Medical Center cannot wait for better weather to arrive at the site for the work to be performed. Incumbents shall be exposed to extreme heat such as steam and cold such as Ultra Cold freezers and working outdoors in subzero weather with below zero wind chill factors. Incumbents may work with and in areas with unpleasant fumes or odors and shall wear assigned Personal Protective Equipment. Incumbents occasionally need to work on rooftops of tall buildings, and in cramped areas. While working in these areas, may be subjected to cuts, burns, electrical shock and refrigerants. The wearing of uncomfortable facemasks and protective clothing are necessary when working with and around hazardous materials and large amounts of refrigerants. Occasionally, the incumbent will be required to work near asbestos containing materials. Performs duties in all areas of this facility ranging from offices to areas of high noise levels and other uncomfortable conditions. These include tunnels, mechanical rooms, and interstitial space, requiring kneeling, stooping, crawling, and climbing ladders.
