What You Will Do

Apprenticeship Requirements:

  • 4-year commitment: 8,000 hours on the job training; and 2-year commitment to stay with company, if you leave the company within  24 months of completing the most recent class/subject or degree you will be responsible for paying back all costs to the company.
  • Upon completion of the program, employees will be assigned to one of 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th shifts as business needs require at that time. While the company will make every effort to assign a shift that is best for a person, apprentices accept that it could be any one of those shifts depending on business needs.

Classroom Instruction:

  • 144 hours per year (2.5 hours/week avg) of approved related instruction required (in-person, remote, hybrid options)
  • Classes must be taken regularly during the apprenticeship program and must be successfully completed to remain in the apprentice program
  • Apprentices are not paid for the time they are taking classes and/or commuting to do same
  • Classes must be taken outside normal working hours, with the exception being if a class is scheduled only during the apprentice’s standard hours, the company will work with the apprentice to alter hours for that(those) day(s) so that class(es) may be taken and the apprentice can work a full shift on-site still.
  • Grades / certificates of completion are to be submitted to COI when received

Performance:

  • Expected to be self-starters - responsible for completing the tasks required throughout the program by proactively working with Maintenance, Electronics, WLs, AWLs, Supervisors, and Maintenance Management to understand tasks available to be done and working with personnel on completing those tasks
  • Responsible for logging all required tasks and getting signoffs from personnel they worked with on same; training records submitted monthly to COI by 5th of every month
  • Required to compile and present for approval any periodic progress reports, and be available for occasional interviews with NYS DOL personnel to gauge progress and the program itself
  • Reviewed for their progress on at least a quarterly basis, more often if needed

Attendance:

  • Work on average 2,000 hours per year (40 hours per week); 8,000 over 4-year period
  • Regular attendance is a key requirement for apprentices. Progress, learning, demonstrable skills development, attitude, and attendance are all factors that will be looked at, and all must be acceptable for an apprentice to remain in the program.
  • Poor and/or erratic attendance is a cause for removal from the program, and such does not need to follow ACT’s standard attendance policy

Attitude:

  • Strong desire and willingness to learn
  • Takes direction from team members
  • If an apprentice chooses not to continue with the program once started, or if it is determined by the company the apprentice is not performing and progressing at a satisfactory level and is removed from the program, they may be offered another position within the company, but such an offer is not guaranteed, nor is there any guarantee  as to position or shift if such an offer is made. If no alternative position is offered, or one is offered and the person chooses not to accept it, employment at ACT will end.

  • Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.

The salary range for this role is $18.67 to $26.00 an hour; however, Raytheon Technologies considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
