Job Summary: This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Office of the Chief Operating Officer, Superintendent House Office Buildings, Assistant Superintendent Facilities Operations Division, Electrical Branch. The incumbent performs Electrician duties on any shift.

Major Duties:

  • We are hiring for two shifts (day and evening). The tours of duty are Monday - Friday 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and Monday - Friday 2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. Hours may change due to operational needs of management. Duties include, but are not limited to: Perform repair and maintenance work on the electrical and electronic components of circuits, systems and controls, such as air conditioning units, power distribution systems, lighting control systems, intrusion/detection systems, electronic door/entry control systems, fire detection and alarm systems, station batteries, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS's) and kitchen appliances in the House cafeterias. Install, assemble, troubleshoot, modify, repair and maintain routine and standard electrical lines, circuits, systems and associated fixtures, controls and equipment. Troubleshoot and repair electronic ballasts, electronic dimmer panels, automatic transfer switches, motor control centers, transformers, small power tool repair, secondary power distribution lines and circuits used to supply a wide range of voltage, amperage, phase and frequency requirements to distribution panels, switch gear, power and control circuits; industrial multiphase systems; thermocouple sensors; electrical intrusion alarm and fire alarm systems; emergency warning systems; lighting protection systems; high intensity lighting systems with associated controls; target mechanisms; AC and DC rectification systems; galvanic and impressed current cathodic protection systems which prevent corrosion on underground or submerged equipment and pipes; amplifier circuits; and related electrical equipment. Test equipment by use of ammeters, voltmeters, meg-ohmmeters and other testing equipment. Troubleshoot, test and load new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems and associated fixtures, controls and equipment. Trace hard-to-locate defects or problems. Interpret and apply the National Electrical Code, local codes, building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams and engineering drawings and uses trade formulas to calculate common properties, e.g., voltage, voltage drop and current capability in series and parallel circuits, resistance, inductance, capacitance, power factor, current flow and temperature and length in single and multiple raceways, conduits, gutters and cable trays. Installs modify, repair, load and test systems, circuits, equipment and controls with little or no check during the progress or upon completion of work. Direct the work of Workers and Helpers during cable pulling, tagging and securing as well as cutting, bending and mounting electrical conduit. Complete installation of electrical lines, circuits, systems and associated fixtures and controls in industrial complexes and/or in buildings with complex electrical loads, such as computer complexes.. Perform the electrical aspects of construction and renovation work. Install electrical devices (conduit, outlets, circuits, etc.) in rooms for which there may not be complete blueprints or schematics available as a result of the age of the facility. Plan and lay out trades work which includes but is not limited to measuring, cutting, routing, placement, type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment and controls. Prepare estimates of material and equipment needed and submits requisitions to supervisor for materials, equipment and supplies necessary to perform the electrical and electronic duties.
