About the Role

Working on an 8-hour day shift roster as an Electrical Tradesperson at Portland Aluminium, you will join an integrated team reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, working to ensure the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all plant and equipment across the Smelter.
In this role, you will liaise with internal and external work groups to optimise the performance of the process and equipment by installing, repairing, commissioning and testing equipment and components. Key to your success is working as part of the team, focusing on effective and efficient completion of tasks whilst upholding our environmental, health and safety standards.
Some of your duties may include:
Performing isolations, commissioning and initial running checks
Preparing work scopes and project activities
Supervising and coordinating projects
Conducting handovers to and from operations
Utilising your skills, technical knowledge and methodologies to identify and eliminate waste
Directing contractors
Auditing work quality

What you can bring to the role
Recognised Electrical Trade qualification (Australian Apprenticeship, Tradesperson’s Rights Certificate, or equivalent) and a current A Grade Electrical Licence.
Strong technical expertise in isolating, diagnosing, analysing, and resolving complex equipment issues.
Experience with PLC systems and motor control is highly regarded.
Exceptional problem-solving ability, combined with clear communication and interpersonal skills to provide technical guidance within and beyond the team.
Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
Previous experience in heavy manufacturing, industrial, or continuous production settings will be an advantage.
Commitment to workplace safety and environmental standards, with a willingness to actively participate in safety improvement initiatives.

About the Location
Our Portland Smelter is a joint venture between Alcoa of Australia (55%), CITIC (22.5%) and Marubeni Aluminium Australia (22.5%). Alcoa manages the day-to-day operations at the smelter and we produce approximately 19 per cent of Australia’s total aluminium production in Portland.
