What’s the role
Shell is seeking an Electrical Engineer/Specialist to join its team at the Fort St. John District Office or in Calgary.
As part of Shell’s Canada Integrated Gas (CIG) Operations, the Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of high-voltage and medium-voltage electrical systems, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient power delivery across our assets. The scope includes working with 230 kV transmission systems, substations, 25 kV distribution networks, and medium-voltage variable frequency drives (VFDs). This role will collaborate closely with operations, maintenance, and project teams to provide technical expertise and drive continuous improvement.
Upstream Operations consist of a mature Groundbirch asset that ultimately feeds LNG Canada (a non-operated venture), the country’s first large-scale LNG export facility.
This role will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of CIG electrical systems, supporting the growing need for reliable, predictable production in the integrated value chain with LNG Canada.
Accountabilities:
Electrical System Engineering & Support
Provide technical leadership for the operation and maintenance of 230kV transmission systems, substations, and 25kV distribution networks
Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis of electrical system failures
Develop and review electrical engineering designs, specifications, and standards
Ensure compliance with regulatory and company standards for electrical safety and reliability
Support wellpad design and operations through MOC development and project support
Support Turnaround activities
Asset Support
Conduct quality reviews of electrical engineering input from an operations standpoint on Greenfield and Brownfield projects
Support commissioning and start-up activities for new electrical installations from an operations standpoint
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to optimize asset performance and reliability
VFD & Medium Voltage Equipment Expertise
Provide technical support for medium voltage VFDs, including configuration, diagnostics, and performance optimization
Lead or support upgrades and lifecycle management of electrical drives and motors
Interface with OEMs and vendors for equipment support and improvements
What you bring
Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
Must have a degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
At least 5 years of relevant experience within oil & gas industry
Must hold, or be eligible to obtain, P.Eng certification with EGBC and/or APEGA
Electrical Technologist / Journeyman Electrician with extensive experience within oil & gas industry may be considered
Experience with high-voltage transmission and distribution systems
Familiarity with medium voltage VFDs and motor control systems
Deep understanding of power system protection, control systems, and/or arc flash mitigation
Proficiency in electrical modeling and analysis tools, such as ETAP

What we offer
The base salary range for this position is $92,600 - $ 148,200 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.
