Electrical Design Engineer

This Electrical Design Engineer role is a high visibility position within the Industrial Solutions Engineering organization, supporting Sensata’s strategic investment in the data center market. The role focuses on the development, integration, and validation of electrical sensing, control, and protection solutions aligned to both data center AC and DC power architectures and associated technology development roadmaps.

The engineer will contribute to system level AC and DC power architecture definition, including power distribution, protection, monitoring, and control strategies for mission critical data center environments. Technologies include GFCI, circuit breakers, power distribution boxes, and AC/DC power control and protection systems, enabling safe, reliable, and scalable power delivery.

This role involves evaluating internal and external partner solutions, defining test and validation strategies, and collaborating closely with supplier, contract manufacturing, and certification teams to qualify and certify products under the Sensata brand. Due to its direct alignment with Sensata’s data center growth strategy, this position offers strong visibility and influence across engineering, operations, and leadership teams.

The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, modifying and evaluating electronic parts, components or integrated circuitry for electronic equipment and other hardware systems.

General Responsibilities
• Creates designs within inter-disciplinary teams to address complex product design and manufacturing challenges
• Leads feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs
• Develops testing, engineering analysis, qualification testing, production launch
• Responsible for failure analysis investigations and engineering evaluations
• Maintains product documentation (drawings and specifications) and lessons learned; produce design reports, test reports, operating manuals and test procedures
• Leads a team that includes senior engineers/managers for the purpose of engaging with customers in soliciting product specifications requirements, schedule expectations and budget

Experience / Qualifications

• A university degree required (i.e. Bachelors degree) or equivalent relevant work experience
• Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands
• Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation
• Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results
• Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity
• Holds self-accountable to achieving goals and standards
• Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
• Strong interpersonal & collaboration skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization including suppliers and/or external customers

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Focus on data center AC and DC power architectures, including system‑level power distribution, sensing, control, and protection
  • Contribution to AC/DC power technology and sensing development roadmaps supporting current and future data center power evolution
  • Core technologies include:
    • AC and DC power sensing and monitoring
    • Ground fault protection (GFCI)
    • Circuit breakers and protection devices
    • Power distribution units (PDUs) and power boxes
    • AC/DC power control and protection systems for high‑power, safety‑critical environments
  • Evaluation of supplier and partner solutions, including white‑label and contract‑manufactured products, against Sensata technical and reliability requirements
  • Development and execution of test plans, validation plans, and qualification strategies for electrical and protection products
  • Close collaboration with certification and compliance teams (e.g., UL, IEC, CE) to achieve approvals under the Sensata brand
  • Travel: Up to 20%, primarily for supplier engagement, manufacturing support, and certification activities

Base Salary Range:

$118,800.00 - $163,350.00
