Job Summary
The E/I Technician will be responsible for troubleshooting PLC, electrical, and instrumentation issues in our facility; reporting to the Maintenance Department. They will also do other duties as assigned.
This position will work a day shift, 1st shift, schedule with an on-call rotation. The shift/schedule is: Monday - Friday, 7am - 2:30pm.
Essential Duties
Safety & Electrical Compliance
Perform all tasks in a safe, efficient, and environmentally friendly manner by using proper Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO), hot work permits, and confined space entry procedures.
Maintain strict compliance with NFPA 70E standards, including the proper use of Arc Flash Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and maintaining safe approach boundaries.
Follow all safety rules and policies, including Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Job Safety Observation (JSO) protocols.
Ensure excellent housekeeping is maintained and enhanced during the performance of all maintenance tasks.
Advanced Controls & Automation
Install, program, maintain, and troubleshoot Allen Bradley and Siemens PLCs (PLC, SLC, CLX).
Work with the Controls Systems Specialist to maintain all PLC, HMI programs (Wonderware, Panel View), and VFD parameter sets.
Troubleshoot and repair motor starter circuits, standalone VFDs, coordinated drive systems, and servos.
Perform general and specialized plant, IT, and electrical maintenance on Ethernet networks.
Analyze machine error messages and information from operators to diagnose and repair equipment.
Electrical, Instrumentation & Reliability
Install, troubleshoot, and repair plant instrumentation, including both pneumatic and electronic systems.
Troubleshoot all primary (up to 480v) and secondary electrical systems and control circuits.
Calibrate and work with control devices such as switches, photo eyes, proximity sensors, actuators, and solenoids.
Utilize computer maintenance systems (Maximo) to record daily work activities, labor hours, and research parts.
Implement predictive and preventive maintenance procedures to optimize plant goals for safety, productivity, and cost-effectiveness.
Assist in the training of others to improve their knowledge of plant electrical systems
Qualifications Required
Associate’s Degree from an accredited technical college in electrical automation technology, electronics engineering technology or automated systems technology OR A High School Diploma/G.E.D coupled with 5 years in maintenance, with an emphasis in electrical maintenance.
Must have the essential hand tools to perform outlined tasks.
Must be able to work from drawings, schematics, sketches and verbal instructions.
Must be self-motivated, flexible and display a demonstrated aptitude to creatively solve problems.
Must be able to perform tasks in a safe, efficient and environment friendly manner by using proper lock out/tag out, hot work permit, confined space entry and equipment safety procedures as well as closely follow the housekeeping policy and environmental spill prevention/clean-up policies.
Ability to follow preventive/predictive maintenance procedures.
Must be able to complete weekly check sheets (measured by report quality and consistency of completion) and providing status reports as needed.
