A Day in Your Life at MKS:
As an EHS Specialist at MKS Inc, you will partner with all functions to support, execute and contribute to daily EHS activities. In this role, you will report to the EHS Manager Romania.
You Will Make an Impact By:
Partner and provide EHS leadership, direction & support for the site EHS role accountable for legal compliance (including induction, monthly EHS trainings)
Provides advice and guidance to operational and functional staff organizations regarding current and anticipated EHS initiatives and issues such as: MEHS, RTO, budgets, LOTO, MASTER
Provide technical support and information of key metrics and objectives for EHS in line with the Romania EHS Manager
Leads first line supervision and management to implement the EHS Program including leading incident investigations and root cause analysis (8D and LL) corrective action plans and corrective action implementation and adding to MASTER
Assist in the development and administration of programs (this will include but not limited to the ongoing development of the EH&S management system and working to a recognised frameworks ISO’s; 45001/14001/50001)
Implement training programs as required by EHS programs and monitor training program performance to ensure that all required statutory training is performed from the LMS (Learning Management System)
Assists in reviews of major plans and specifications for new operations (contractor activities, equipment transfer, installation, commissioning etc.), chemical uses (e.g. Velocity SDS) to ensure that appropriate EHS requirements are considered
Ensure that all departments utilise correct procedures for hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal (in conjunction with Norm Environmental consultancy)
Keeps track of waste evidence according to legal & corporate requirements, and submits the reports required by Authorities according to the legal requirements (Environment fund, Waste evidence etc

Excellent time management and the ability to carefully weigh Risk/Harm when prioritizing tasks
The adaptability to work within established teams and at times independently
Strong presentation, organizational, analytical & problem-solving skills
A practical understanding of the application of regulation and legislation within advanced manufacturing and production of optical components and subassemblies, vacuum coated optical components. Design and production of optical coatings for infrared and visible optical systems.
A track record of systems and project management using lean approaches including PDCA and 6S (lean Manufacturing) as required
Transparency in communication and the experience to engage and inform varying groups at different levels correctly
Preferred Skills:
Strong written and verbal understanding of English a must
Minimum local legal requirements for EHS (education & specific trainings)
Minimum NEBOSH International certificate or BS Degree equivalent in Health & Safety (IOSH Certificate Desired), Environmental Management Certificate (AIEMA or NEBOSH Preferred) or within a relative field of qualification with 2 - 4 years of related experience in the areas of Environmental, Health and Safety
In-depth Knowledge of Romania OSHA and understanding of the wider EMEA OSHA/HSE Regulations which also include:
RTO (Permits)
Local Regulations
Environmental Regulations (permits consent to discharge to atmosphere and sewer)
The management of hazardous and universal wastes
Control of storm water as required
The development and implementation of compliance programs such as: ISO: 45001 and or ISO: 14001 including worker training (NEBOSH International Certificate desired)
Familiarity with compressed gas handling equipment, lasers and chemicals
A working knowledge of vacuum coated optical components and laser safety as best practice controls (LSO would be an advantage).
