Job Summary
The EHS Manager will utilize existing procedures and their acquired knowledge to provide EHS technical support to the plant through coordination of EHS activities and programs. This role supports the implementation, execution, and maintenance of the environmental, health, and safety systems for the plant. As the EHS Manager, you will work collaboratively with the Corporate EHS team, Plant Management, Production, Maintenance, and Engineering team members and focus on various projects and initiatives within these teams. This position will provide support to EHS specialists within the network. This position will report directly to the Director of EHS and will be based at the Ennis plant location.
Essential Duties
Guide environmental, health, and safety activities at the Plant.
Practice safe working techniques and reinforce the safety policies, guidelines, and procedures as set out by the company.
Coordinate with the plant manager and the production, maintenance, and engineering departments on facility deficiencies through site audits and inspections.
Monitor site-specific EHS leading and lagging indicators.
Ensure the plant is current on all relevant environmental, health, and safety documents in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Assist the Director of EHS with the creation and execution of strategic initiatives.
Lead environmental compliance efforts and monitor permit requirements.
Assist with the new employee orientation process and ensure completion of EHS training for all employees.
Identify training programs to meet plant needs, track training progress, and onboard plant employees with environmental responsibilities.
Act as an EHS subject matter expert, responding to questions from plants and other stakeholders.
Ensure that corporate EHS Applications are embedded in the operation and that these management practices drive the appropriate behavior.
Identify site-specific circumstances requiring changes to the EHS management system, and enable successful implementation and sustainability at a local level.
Act as a mentor to other EHS specialists within the network.
Use data to make recommendations on changes to training programs, SOPs, JSAs, and
tools to prevent accidents and educate and protect employees.
Coordinate with appropriate industry-related vendors and SMEs related to the EHS
needs of the organization.
Lead incident investigations, develop corrective actions, and communicate lessons learned in a timely, effective, and thorough manner.
Utilizing the EHS Enterprise System (Gensuite - EHS), record and analyze accident and
incident records and make recommendations regarding corrective actions, emphasizing proactive intervention.
Ensure the findings of accident investigations, safety inspections, audits, and risk
Assessments are brought to the attention of leadership and others who may be affected.
Assist procurement in the management of onsite contractor safety.
Support plant leadership on capital project planning to align sustainability efforts with
capital and engineering projects.
Perform other duties assigned.
Qualifications Required
H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
5+ years of work experience in workplace environmental, health, and safety program management
Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, policies, programs, PPE, environmental policies (EPA), safety engineering, accident/injury investigation procedures and operating rules, etc.
The candidate should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, in addition to strong computer skills.
Excellent organization and time management skills, flexibility, and ability to maintain confidentiality
Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to work flexible hours and business travel up to 10% when needed.
Qualifications Preferred
Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical or Environmental Engineering or a related field.
Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Environmental Professional (CEP)
Experience with process safety concepts, such as management of change
