Educator - Parenting Center (Per Diem)

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

JOB SUMMARY:

The Educator is responsible for planning and scheduling classes, events, facilitators, and guest speakers. Additional duties include identifying, developing, and presenting appropriate training and education about parenting, positive discipline, health, nutrition, and wellness to meet the needs of the community. Provide informal learning by addressing parenting concerns, model parenting techniques, provide hands on tips and resources. Coordinates with Parenting Center Manager and other STHS departments to seek opportunities both internally and in the community to provide education and support. Organizes, implements, and participates as STHS representative in special events including Health Fairs, car seat inspection events, and expos.  Assist in maintaining social media pages.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Child Development, Health Education, Public Health, Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field required (Master's degree preferred). Must have experience teaching in both individual and group settings with children and adults; secure networking with social service/community organizations, educational providers, businesses, medical providers, and referral sources; and have knowledge of child development and positive parenting techniques. Must be able to have a flexible schedule, available to work some evenings and weekends. Once employed, training provided to obtain and maintain certifications from American Heart Association CPR as an instructor, Child Passenger Safety Technician, Safe Sitter instructor, Autism Certificate of Competency, and parenting programs as determined.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge to maintain social media and website.
  • Must be able to develop presentation that may include PowerPoint, Video, and/or hands on demonstrations.
  • Must be able to coordinate activities and organize work in an efficient and timely manner. Must be able to evaluate and establish priorities. Must be able to establish goals and objectives.
  • Must be capable of performing the day-to-day routine activities of the department. Moderate lifting required, depending on course assignment, and transporting required.
  • Must be a team player willing to perform other duties needed that may not be in job description.

 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 
Must possess good physical health.  Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time.  Lifting at least 20 pounds is required.  Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise.
